hi guys as i can't bring myself to use my selsport heritage yet, im looking for another good quality match glove. i had one pair of sells aquas before and ive got to be honest i was dissapointed to say the least, durability was shocking but i do believe that was down to me not knowing how wet to keep the guys through use. the first few times i used them i thought wow these are the gloves to me but then the flaking started and started to loose faith in them. what do you guys think give them another chance or not ? and if so any tips on how to reduce the flaking and how damp to keep them. appreciate any repsonses thanks james

Hi Mate...ive had loads of issues with Sells including the aqua wraps ive now moved back to UHLSPORT and Bob Warbys gloves.

UHLSPORT for the advanced technolagy and fantastic relibilty & Warby for price and quality.

Check out UHLSPORT Cerbius moulded (£60) Warby Legend (£29)

Fantastic gloves...as for Sells & Selsport i wont be buying untill QC & QA have sorted them selfs out.

I today ordered the sells outlast wrap gloves however like yourself i was un-sure on the wrap's again. If you want a quality glove i would say either the wraps or total contact evo's. When you have got the Evo's on they mold to your had perfectally and they feel like you havent got anything on your hands, thats just my view. I have had evo's for 2 seasons now and fancied a change as im playing for my college as well so needed another pair of gloves to add to the other 30 pairs lol Big Smile

Evo's or Wrap's defo !!!!! 110%

No difference in the palm latexes at all, only differences are in the material used for the backhand of the Sub zero being that of fleece hence why subzero, where as Aqua uses a water repellent membrane.

Regarding quality control, Absolutgrip is just about the low point in the history of modern goalkeeper gloves. A lot of people here have had bad - REALLY bad - experiences with Absolutgrip. The grip (not the latex) has the tendency to simply die after a few games. Just not worth risking 60 quid for that.

Forgot to add, as latexes the same you'll get the same flaking which ever you choose I would have thought, all depends on your treatment of them.

Hi safehands, I've been using sells aquas for some time now and hadn't experienced any durability issues except for the last pair I purchased. They started to flake very quickly and I'd like to think that I'm almost obsessive about keeping my gloves damp to avoid this problem. I have put this durability issue down to just being unlucky with this last pair. The Aquas are one of the best gloves I have worn in wet and dry, so I would say give them another try and I haven't seen too many bad reviews of this glove on TGB. Unfortunately it seems that from time to time you can get a pair of gloves with dodgy latex. I've experienced this with Uhlsport/Sells and Reusch gloves in the past. Hope this helps. Cheers GG.

Simmo, I am currently using sells contact evo surround cut. I totally agree with you with regard to the fit although for me the jury is still out on the wrist closure as this is a new concept for me. In dry conditions the grip is phenomenal. What is your opinion of the grip in the wet? I have prewashed them a couple of times. I have also tried a few diiferent things with them prior to a match, from damp to quite wet and not wetting them at all. So far I have been disappointed and don't seem to be able to acheive the grip I achieved from the sells aqua wraps. I have yet to read/see a bad review of these gloves so I'm intrigued to find out how they perform for other keepers in wet/very wet conditionsConfused, Cheers GG.

Justin stick to the issue mate...sells are a fashionable glove that will come and go...will they stand the test of time?

I dont not sit on the fence, like many GK out there! i can only give feed back on my experiance and others i coach and feedback from them!

I wouldnt waste £60 thats why if you read the thread i also use Warby as well!!!!! I dont need to go out there and be like every other GK thats what makes me differant and thats why i have been very succsesfull!

Its easy to follow others...but hard to be individual and push boundries!

I'm not sure how to respond to this, except to say, my point was simply that Absolutgrip has verifiable QA/QC problems.

I'm glad you're very successful. I think when you get to know the people on this board you will find we are all successful in our own ways, and there are many current or former fulltime pros and coaches here, but nobody tries to big up themselves or one-up one another.

Guys, I am not quite sure I am liking the way this is heading. Perhaps a good time to re-post this link for new members to see what TGB is about ...

One of the most important points for me ....

  • Please respect the views of others. Of course you can disagree with their views but if you need to post a reply, do it in a respectful way.

Thanks

I have just recently got myself the new H20 Wrap Ultimate's from PDS and the quality is very good I have to say.

I have always found that flaking is a normal part of the life span of a glove, in particular any Neg cut glove flakes pretty easily. Also found that my WGK's flaked quite a bit on the outside's of the little and index fingers which are rolled outwards. Not sure if these cuts put more pressure on the palm to cause the flaking?
