Hi Guys

I have just joined and wondered if any of you remember the Sondico gloves that used to have splashes of paint on the grip!!! I think Nigel Spinks used to wear them, they had a purple double ss logo and Sondico down the index figure.

I remember begging my Dad to buy them for me when I was about 11 or 12, I'm 30 now!!

If anyone has a picutre I'd be grateful.

Great site by the way, nice to see that most guys between the stick's share the same passion!!

Dano

Thank to one and all, its like looking at all the gloves I wanted as a kid but could not afford! I'd love to get my hands on a pair but I think I'll have to make do with just the picture!!!

I did see that you guys were talking some time ago about vintage gloves, there is a guy selling old Mitre ones for 4.99 for 2 pair's on ebay. I m sure they were around in the in 80's. Silver with blue smooth latex. I would up load a picture but computers are not my thing !!!

Thanks again.

I scored a par of the Spinks @ a place that catered in team sports sales.  The latex was super super-softi & unless the Uhl APGs predated them (by a yr. or so?), they had the plastic film over them (re: were the APGs the first w/the film in the Glove HOF submittal)

Yeah I know what you mean. I had a pair of Sondico Southal Stoppers, they had no entry signs on the palms and they had a clear plastic over them, I got them at a closing down sale for a tenner!! I think the reason for the plastic is because they were so soft! I remember losing half the palm the first time I used them!!

Also used to love the old sondicos that had the red and black suckers on the palm looked a bit like octopus suckers! They were awesome too! I remember Simon Tracey used to wear them for Sheffield United in the late 80's early 90's! Any pics of them knocking about too????????????

They were wicked !! What ever happen to such a legendary make ??? I know they still trade in the U.S.

Some of the old gloves were great !!

Sells are like 'The Sondico of the new Millenium' in the sense that the majority of keepers in the UK wear them but they don't dominate half as much abroad.....

I have used Sells a few times but chop and change so much these days, In the 90's I always used to buy Reusch but now I don't touch them.

I had a pair of the Tracy gloves also.  But once the palm wore down, the octo-pads would pop off leaving a latex abcess!  Sondico had their version of the Uhl "Zoff Pro Safe" @ one point  around this time (thicker-than-average green palm w/flexion points, white body, black textured backhand) as well that Sukan Sports sold
