They where called 'Reusch Schmeichel Personal', i saved my pocket money for about a year to get these when i was around 13/14 and they where still £49.99 back then. Simple flat palm glove, with elastic wrist closure. They were, white, red and black for Utd's colours but in his Brondby days he wore the same glove in white, blue and yellow Towards the end of is Utd career and at Lisbon & Villa he wore a plain white model with the 'S' in black.

They were a quality gripping glove, and more importantly for me back then, Schmeichel wore em!
Don't think he ever wore roll finger though, even when he went to Nike at Man City, he wore an SMU Vapour Grip with flat palm and elasticated wrist.
It was a sad day when he took the Nike shilling and consigned the S gloves to history.
To mark such a classic design, I thought I'd lash together an evolution of the glove in pictures. I haven't included every variation and I'm guessing at the early history.
The first pair are Sepp Maier and the second (the first ones by Reusch?) were either Schumacher or still Sepp. Once Peter got his hands in them after that, they were definitely Schmeichel, although a few other German goalies like Sebastian Selke wore them.
A matchworn pair of the last design from Villa (all white with the smaller Reusch on the knuckle) are for sale at <http://www.thefootyshop.com/proddetail.asp?prod=117&review=add> for £175. Don't quite seem like the real thing to me though...
Why did the big man never have a bandage wrist in his gloves??
Quite a few of the keepers from that time had an elastic wrist. Kahn was another who always had the elastic wrist, along with Fabien Barthez just to name two.

just to update a bit. The glove was actually worn by many EPL keepers in the first couple of years of EPL (before smikes wore them). Schmiechal was the only one to wear it later on and so guess the changed the name of it.
Grip on red/white models were SSG. The all white version introduced when Utd won the Champions League, had Mega I believe. Maybe not his SMU but I saw retail versions with Mega. Given the choice I would take red/white model. Grip was very good on these. I had several pair and wore them for a couple of years. They were the last flat-palm gloves I have worn.

would of loved to have had a pair the red white 'S' reusch. or the wind stoppers that seaman wore.
have never owned a pair of reusch as of yet. used a pair and won a tournement when i forgot my gloves. but that is some thing i plan to change when i next buy gloves

Smikes wore these gloves in his 1st season at United (1991-92) (blue & Yellow model for 1st few games, then Reusch made them him in the red/black colours of Man United). EPL started the year after (92-93).
The 'S' on the reusch gloves always stood for the surname of the keeper wearing them and varied keeper to keeper (Lehman had an 'L' on his).
