Does anyone knows the name of the Reusch model that Peter Schmeichel was wearing during EURO 96?

They looked like Reusch World keeper 98 but the color of the gloves were white and that arrow in the middle was black?

They were called Reusch 'Pro Arrow', all the keepers during euro 96 wore an SMU with their national flag on the bottom of the arrow, and a smaller than normal Reusch branding on the index finger.

I was actually behind the goal when Sukur famously chipped him, me and my dad where in the aisle about to leave ,when Smikes went up for a corner, Croatia broke and Sukur did the rest. You can see me on the replay behind the goal watching in horror as the ball drops in!!

The glove was actually worn by many EPL keepers in the first couple of years of EPL (before smikes wore them).

Smikes wore these gloves in his 1st season at United (1991-92) (blue & Yellow model for 1st few games, then Reusch made them him in the red/black colours of Man United). EPL started the year after (92-93).

The 'S' on the reusch gloves always stood for the surname of the keeper wearing them and varied keeper to keeper (Lehman had an 'L' on his).

If you look at back at the footage at the end of the old 1st div/beginning of premier league..many of the keepers had the red/white glove with the S.  This was prior to Schmiehcal wearing them.  I have videos of the top save/ top goals from back then and was surprised at how many keepers had them on.    Beasant was one of them even though i only remember him in sondico & uhl

The letter has not always been for the "surname" of the pro keeper.    "S" was often used for Sepp Meier models for example.   I wore reusch in the 80s and 90s almost exclusively so know there logo methods.

Could you please back this up with some pics because I do not recall this for the life of me Tongue Tied. The Reusch gloves all the keepers in the English leagues I remember wearing at the time can be seen on Nigel Martyn in the Name That Goalkeeper V14 thread....

I used them in the football league(Div.3) now league 2. Execllent grip, I got them direct from reusch UK when they were in Wellingborough then in Barnet. When I played semi-pro I got a pair from Just Keepers, terrible really hard latex.

Gloves have always been my passion, I retired about 3 years ago now but still have a good collection, still find myself trawling the internet for the perfect glove, I have one question for someone more knowledgeable than me.

When I was a pro I got my gloves direct from reusch, not free, but straight from the UK factory, would the latex have been any different from retail models? I ask because when I lost my final pro contract and went non league I carried on buying from reusch(Barnet) then they moved to Huddersfield who refused to supply me. I hope you are following...... I started buying retail versions but found wet grip rubbish. Picture the scene, wet day, brand new ball. Retail gloves worn and washed USELESS, pull a brand new pair of my old PRO gloves out and within a few mins perfect grip, no pre-wash, no warm up nothing. I always tried to keep them dry as opposed to wet gloves in wet weather. This was around 1995/96. The only reason I can come up with is reusch stopped using a PREMIUM PURE latex to keep costs down. The retail on gloves then was around £40, not to distant from the likes of sells today. I would love to find the old Bundesliga I used to wear on ebay and compare them to todays models. I kept old of a pair of Tony Meola roll finger for years because in the wet I could always rely on them on a wet day(these were straight off the shelf on holiday in Florida in 91) so my theory would be they lowered the quality of latex to keep costs down.

I had certain models of reusch that would rival any grip in wet of any of todays gloves (Reusch Pro Goal was amazing)...And I would say the same thing.  It seemed that in the mid to late 90's right before Mega Grip, something changed.  The grip was more rigid, and the palm almost had a laminated feel.  Great to have you on the board Old Man Fordy!

Ah, the Tony Meola rollfinger! What a glove, as Fordy says. It was my glove of choice for a very wet 1990-91 season in the Ryman League. I would put that latex up against most supersofts today.

Echoing Chewie, welcome aboard, Fordy!

Wouldn't disagree and have often thought the same myself......its all about mass production and as you say keeping costs down. And you could certainly say the same about adidas gloves....

Also probably worth noting is that when reusch moved to Huddersfield they became part of the 'Pentland Group'

would have to agree that the latex was not as good in mid 90s.   The reason I stopped buying them.  The Schmiechal gloves I bought on clearance for $22 (i bought 5 pair) were brilliant gripwise though.  All of the Mega grip gloves I bought with exception of the ProGoals were awful.   The ProGoals were fantastic for 7 to 10 games and then grip would die.    Maarten Arts told me via email that the latex was different than the other Megas but I always thought that was him trying encourage purchases to his SMU.

I've got the tape, just need to borrow a VCR (mine dies and I never replaced it) and get the footage.

Thanks mate!

I just want to correct you. It's Davor Šuker or Suker because you don't have letter Š... Sukur is turkish player...
