And I have a game. I don't usually celebrate rain, but since I've started playing again, nearly two years now, I have had exactly one - ONE - game in wet conditions. All the talk here about aqua gloves and rain, and I never get to comment based on experience.
I do have a question - how should I prep my Sells Aqua Wraps, which have sat unused for months? There's no question about the rain, it's already started and is not expected to stop until tomorrow. Should I dampen them, soak them, or just let them get wet on their own during the warmup?
A bit of both really. I tend to damp them about before i leave home and then (depending on how hard it's raining) I dampen them or just wipe my waterproofs with them which gets them wet the perfect amount.
Thanks, I'll try that. They've sat for so long that I'm not terribly confident in them. So if the grip isn't feeling right, I'll go with my Selsport UltraFlex 3Cs, which Chewie said performed really well in wet conditions for him.
Justin why don't you move to England; we have an abundance of rain at the moment lol! I should know I have to coach in it!
Dida still needs a team! lol
Why be negative when you can be Positive? Beats me!
Keepers are criticised and praised, its the keepers choice to decide what to listen to.
a week in england would sort that you would never want to see rain again after being over here at the moment! owell at least my sells aqua's are getting a good test week in week out!
Justin there's also plenty of spare rain for you in New Zealand mate
Hi justin, I asked the same question of my Sells total contact evo's. I had exactly the same dilemma in torrential rain recently. I didn't wet them and just used them in the warm up, as the rain was so heavy throughout I had to wring out the excess water during the game. So I guess in this instance, no need to dampen them.
Well Justin how did your game go tonight and how did you preform? and how did your gloves preform?
The rain came down in sheets all night. I have to say, it was quite beautiful, illuminated by the floodlights with the backdrop of the New York skyline! The Sells performed superbly. I did dampen them, but it rained so hard they were soaked through by the end of the warmup. The grip felt nearly as good as a good supersoft in dry conditions, so I was really pleased. Unfortunately, my team is terrible, and goals flew past me all night. But I made a lot of saves too, and overall was happy.
If I have one critique of the glove, I think the fact that the entire backhand is latex causes it to take on more water. I was frequently having to wring them out, and they felt a little bit heavy. As much as I like the feeling of an all-latex glove, I think my ideal aqua glove would have this palm but a simple PU backhand.
