I have always used roll figer gloves however, i was wondering why most people seem to be using negative cut gloves these days?

What do they offer have to offer that the roll finger gloves don't?

Interesting question Simmo. I'm embarrassed to say I have never tried negative cut glovesEmbarrassed so I'd like to know what the pros and cons are too.

I have only tried one pair of negative cut gloves before and they were reusch and even then i was on holiday an was amazed to find a 'good' pair of gloves abroad. I love roll finger gloves however i have read on a few posts that they offer better ball to hand contac but im not sure. Has anyone used both and if so which one do they prefer. I am a massive fan of sells gloves s well and was going to look at either the contact vo neg or the d30 neg's

thanks

Excellent question Simmo, i was going to post this when i got time but you beat me to it.

I have only ever worn Roll finger gloves and wore Flat palms when i was 12/13 but cant remember what they were like.

So can someone please tell us the pros and cons of Neg cut and the difference between them and Roll finger.

Both roll finger and negative cut offer great latex to ball contact. Negative gloves are cut to fit the hand snugly, and are not as stiff as a roll model. Negative cut gloves are the most comfortable to wear if you want/need a glove with spines in them. Both are superior models to the flat cut, IMHO, but it comes down to personal preference & what feels good on your hand. I usually play in one or the other depending on conditions & what I feel like wearing.

I'd also like to point out that most roll finger gloves tend to be a little tight in the finger tip area versus negative cut.  Several years ago I did  a glove cut vs. hand type post on KZ, if I can find it i'll post it unless someone on here has it.

It's hard for me to state a preference, only that I love both rollfinger and negative cut, and don't like flat palms.

My neg cut Sells Comfort Contours give me incredible feel and control of my hands/fingers/the ball. I can feel each finger moving individually to collect and hold the ball. I think the fit has to be snug to get this effect tho. I have a pair of older HO Enigmas where the fingers are cut too wide for my skinny fingers, so the feel is not enhanced. They basically feel like flat palms.

Roll finger, on the other hand, does not give me quite the same level of feel and control, but it doesn't seem to matter, as it gives me more a feeling of 'surrounding' the ball in a wall of latex.

My Sells NCs have latex gussets, so there really is no difference between them and rollfingers in terms of latex-ball contact. Some people feel latex gussets make the gloves too bulky, but the Sells are cut so slim that with them at least, it doesn't seem to matter.

I have a pair of Uhlsport negative cut Chimera SMUs, with fabric gussets. The glove feels great but is subject to finger twisting, so I don't use them for games.

Basically, I love both.

I should add that there are obviously great flat palm gloves out there. I'm basically just a snob tho and like the slightly 'specialized' feeling of wearing roll or NC.

so, personal preference then really......

now to my next question would you recommend the roll finger or negative cut d30's?

i love roll finger gloves or would you say a change may suit me however i don't want to be paying like 4 lots of postage sending them back and forward. Ive had the wrap's, evo's,puma, uhlsport + more..... but only ever tried one negative cutglove and even then i don't like reusch the palms went weird within 2 weeks although they were brought abroad lol.

thanks

I think there's a cut that combines the best of both worlds. It has latex on every surface like the rollfinger combined with the more flexible and snug fit of the negative cut. Is it called a half-negative? FS Sport made me a few pairs of this design a couple of years back with a duo-grip and Reusch have used the same spec in the past and continue to with the current Duo Bundesliga. It was almost perfect for me.

The problem with the full negative - like Van der Sar's Adidas - is you have the minimum amount of latex available and I just don't see how that can be a good thing.

Imo, the Nike vapors are sort of a mix (especially the promo ones with 2 neg cut fingers)

They offer excellent comfort and latex to ball contact. Then again, I might be being a bit biased because I adore contact foam atmStick out tongue

I just wish nike would bring out a full negative glove

thats what i think with the negative cuts you don' get much latex. They are the same price so it doesnt matter which one i go for price wise, i might go for a change as ive had for the last 4 seasons roll fingers. has anyone else had this dilemma? (can't spell)

thanks

Well, (price wise) you could always go for the super4 comfort contours. they are 30 quid and use the same latex as the proper 3DO ones and not to mention that the name really lives up to expectations! very comfortable

Well they managed to knock out a few pairs for the little French fella. Elasticated cuffs? Weirdo.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that I knew about those. I meant like a general glove. They had some on justkeepers till a few months ago. Oh, and I would never wear anything that says barthez's name on it Stick out tongue
