interesting to note that the 034 is one of the best (and most iconic) gloves ever produced . yet at the time , it was considerably cheaper than many in the uhlsport range

Similar thing with the Reusch equivalent of the day - the blue palmed Reusch Match was not the most expensive but was used by most of their endorsees of the day - fantastic in the mud along with the 034...

goalie gloves:

Cool Hi Jimmy, thanks for posting this catalolgue, like some of the other guys it brings back many fond memories. I live in Scotland and purchased quite a few pairs of gloves from Sukan Sports. I remember looking thru these catalogues and feeling like a kid at christmas deciding what gloves to buy next! do you have any catalogues/pictures featuring Sukan's own brand of gloves?( If i'm not mistaken they had an 'S' on the back of the glove??).  Cheers.

There are some with the old Sukan gloves but its just an advertisement from an old Shoot or Match magazine so they are drawn rather than actual photographs. Here you go Chief.......

I've had a conversation with Jimmy and Sepp this past week about the Sukan/Reusch 223's on this catalogue which big Nev used to wear and I had as a 16 year old many years ago...I know it's a long shot, but I'm very keen to try and find a pair if anyone can assist in anyway I'd be a happy man!

I know the feeling Geno. If I got ahold of a pair of the 031s, or any of my old faves, I'd probably just stare at them for hours.

Thanks Jimmy. I've really enjoyed looking thru the old catalogs..it's certainly a trip down memory lane!Big Smile  I agree with the other guys that the some of the retro gloves and jerseys would still look great today if updated. Enjoyin TGB, it's made an expanding 38 year old very happy! Thanks again,

Cheers, Mick.

Thanks very much. Seeing the old advertisement was such a flashback! I think it may have been Sukan/Reusch 223's that i bought in 1984. I remember wearing them at the trials for the Scottish Schoolboys Under 15's and the other keepers there asking where I had got them. One keeper asked if I would swap them for an old pair of Uhlsport 084's, which I politely declined! if my memory serves me correctly I saw them in a colour photograph in one of the catalogs(possibly 1983/1984?) and immediately ordered them. Does anyone have any pictures of the Sukan/Reusch range as they don't appear to be in any of the catalogs posted? I would also be very keen to see these gloves again as they had a phenomenal grip in all conditions. I bow to your superior knowledge and glad that there seems to be quite a few guys out there that share my enthusiasm for quality goalkeeper equipment.

Hi, did you get any joy with regard to the Sukan/Reusch 223's? I've tried in vain but i am unable to even find a picture of these glovesSad. I did find a picture of Neville Southall wearing Sukan/Reusch but not the model in question. Any info would be most apreciated, thanks again guys, cheers.

Big SmileCoolBig Smile Jimmy you are a star! you have made an old goalie very happy! I'm 99% sure those are the ones(it was nearly 25 years ago lol). A quality glove in it's day, worn by big Nev..a hero of mine even though I supported Liverpool back in those days! Who are your favourite keepers? Are you a Jimmy Rimmer fan by any chance lol? Loving the site more every time I sign in, Cheers, GG.

I'm with you all the way on that one K. I can't speak highly enough about this glove. Not sure the younger guys would agree though. My son's not keen on them but I'm sure I can educate him on the legendary Sukan Sports!

Just to say when I was in my youth my dad took me up to the famous Sukan towers.

It was in a back street of Caversham, Reading and was a converted front room of the shop owner (Mr Derek Holmes if my memory serves me well).

The place had big posters on the wall of all the keepers (advertising from the major glove companies, Reusch,  Sondico, Uhlsport etc).

This memory has lived with me over 25 years and will never fade.

RIP Sukan Sports (but never forgotten)

RP

PS  I won a Uhlsport competition just before it closed. (boy was I chuffed!)

PPS Here is the location on goggle maps http://maps.google.com/maps?client=safari&rls=en&q=2%20piggots%20road&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&um=1&sa=N&tab=wl (enjoy)

Hi Rocketpants. I am so jealous that you actually went to Sukan Sports[:'(]. For me this place was the holy grail of goalkeeper kit, especially the gloves. Where I live in Scotland we had a company called Matsudo which sounds very similar but it never had the top notch stuff that Sukan provided.

Does anyone know if the people (ie Mr Derek Holmes etc) that owned and worked in Sukan Sports are still around? Has anyone managed to contact them to tell them what a profound and lasting effect their business had on us ageing keepers?
