Firstly i will say hello as its my first post.
i have jsut joined a new football league and have said yes to go in goal
so im after a bit of advice from you more experianced people, its a 5 a side league and we are playing on a fake grass ( not astro ). So i need some new gloves as the ones i had to use were rubbish and old, what would you guys recomend,
A finger save style or one without that you can grip the ball better with, bearing in mind its hard to catch a ball at such speed and distance.
Also what are all the differnet cuts and styles ?
I dont mind spending the money for some decent gloves.
I have also read a lot on here about washing them and prewash and such like any little bits of advice is going to be greatly apreciated.
Thanks in advance
Dave
Hi mate, welcome to the site.
Give these a read:

If you are going to be playing on fake grass (3G I take it) and you are new to goalkeeping you wont want the most expensive gloves, you will want ones that can be replaced easily with a reasonable amount of durability. I would recommend the Sells Permagrip Wrap although a lot of people will recommend the glove from KA.
Hope this helps.
Any more questions PM me.
Good luck
Dida still needs a team! lol
Why be negative when you can be Positive? Beats me!
Keepers are criticised and praised, its the keepers choice to decide what to listen to.
thanks for a quick reply, have looked at this and other places on net, but i dont rly know were to start mate which is why i have posted as i havent stoped reading.
i also dont really want to have to get the gloves off the net so this is limiting my choice quite considerably.
thanks again
Try your local JJB or Sportsworld then mate. Why dont you want to buy off the net.
Davem: i also dont really want to have to get the gloves off the net so this is limiting my choice quite considerably. thanks again
If that's the case, just go to your local soccer/goalkeeper shop, browse the selection objectively (some gloves will state that they're made for so-and-so conditions and for so-and-so fields, etc), and buy what you believe is right for you. A glove specifically made for durability is what you would probably want.
we have a jjb with a limited choice infact crap. and sports direct which is slightly better and gloves are a good price.
i need them for sunday and i only get paid in cash so makes little awkward.
what would you suggest, been looking at adidas finger save and the nike total 90 confidence and few others just as previosly said dont know where to start,
cheers Dave
if i were you i'd stay well away from both of those gloves. playing on the surface you've described is not suitable for the extremely soft palms of those expensive gloves. you won't get good value for money and they won't last long.
personally in your situation i'd go for the nike grip 3 (the £19.99 version) from JJB. it has the features of the more expensive glove with an excellent 3mm supersoft palm.
Or if you wanted a finger save glove go with the Adidas Fingersave Replique although the bones arent the best in my opinion. To be honest to get the best choice of gloves you have to go online.
D
thanks, so you reackon it would be a waste of time and money going for them.
i just dont want to buy crapa nd have them fall apart which is why i have said i dont mind spending the money as its only money.
am going to need them for sunday which is a problem
any one got any sugestions ?
cheers
True but the expensive gloves will fall apart as well due to the surface and training so going expensive isnt worth it until you have built up your technique. As me and Cardiff said you could try the Nike Grip 3 (£19.99) or the Adidas Fingersave Replique (£24.99). I would say the Nike is a better option.
the ground didnt seem that harsh as i spent enough time sliding on it lol.
would either of them be better than the uhlsport ones i have now that were a decent glove 5 years ago.
how long would they last me you think general use?
also dida did you get that pm ?
cheers fellas
Yes I did mate and I have replied.
It is hard to say whether these gloves are better than ur uhlsports becaues a) I dont know what they were and b)there is no right or wrong really, it's all opinion. Gloves normally last around 10-15 games if maintained and not used in training.
