Just curious as to how many of you try to match up everything? Jersey, short, socks, boots and gloves. I'd like to think it's very few, but if you had/have the opportunity, do you try to match up as much as possible? or at least coordinate a couple pieces?
I ask because I was working with a focus group of GK's recently and a few of them asked for a true head to toe match. The rest thought it was a bit extreme but said they would like to see more apparel that does hook to their gloves and/or footwear so i wanted to see what you all thought.
i wouldnt say i tried to match as such but i do make an effort to look as good as i can by that i mean shirt tucked in, boots and gloves clean etc. although i have not brought gloves before because i think they'd look awful with my kits. may seem sad but to me its important. i get quite a bit of praise from other managers and coaches for looking the part which is nice sometimes makes me feel bit more pro when i look the part dont ask me why! also get quite a bit of stick from the lads seeing as they dont believe in cleaning theyre boots!!! but i think you pay good money for the gear why not treat it right??? theres my view sorry i went on a bit!!
Interesting subject,
We have goalkeepers that ask us for matching training gear with matching colour gloves, aswel as matching coloured gloves for each goalkeeper jersey the club have.
as you know with the kaliaaer brand, we like colours lol We have a french keeper who likes "pink" so much so that he has customised shoklock in pink, pink training top, pink under top, prink shorts, pink under shorts and pink socks ... now that takes matching to the extreme!!
Personally, .. I like to match - my chosen colour? Light blue with matching gloves,
Greg
Totally agree with you there mate - boots, gloves and kit have to be in tip top shape for me for every game - even training! A coach at our academy years ago pointed out that if boots and gloves worked so well caked in mud, why didn't manufacturer's make them covered in mud! Was a point that hit home with me!
Kind of taken it a step further now - I even warm up in separate training kit (club policy) but also different pair of boots and gloves to what I'm playing in. They are the same as those used in the match though! Attention to detail not only makes you look smarter and feel more 'professional' but also play like that more.
Back to the issue of colour - I have never bought boots and or gloves to match a kit, or indeed avoided them if they don't match. I know what you mean though - there is a keeper at our club who, when presented with last season's silver playing jersey, bought some silver Puma boots and gloves. Was quite funny as about 6 weeks later, the kit man appeared with a replacement red jersey as the silver one got damaged in the wash!!!
Always like to look smartly turned out, guess thats the military side coming through. Never enter a game with anything dirty.
Like to match my kit, but never really all same colour. Like my jersey, shorts and sox to be made by the same people but am not to bothered if the boots and gloves are different.
I once tried an all green kit and I honestly felt like I was wearing pyjamas!
Generally I like to match up my kit to some extent......I wore keeping pants this season and mostly wore black boots to go with it, but I have never worn gloves just because they match the colour of my kit
We take joy by taking the joy from players and spectators.....
RC, by 'match up,' do you mean shirt/shorts/socks all the same color, or just all the same manufacturer/style?
I was all adidas head to toe (not including gloves) until I got a pair of Sells goalkeeper socks, which I absolutely love. So now I mix & match manufacturers a little bit, in a simple black socks/black shorts/grey top scheme. I've never worried about matching my gloves to my kit though.
I definitely subscribe to the 'look sharp' school of thought, though, even in training. Black Selsport 3/4s, any one of several solid color adidas pullover tops.
I'm sticking with color right now. Most players will match up jersey, shorts and socks to one brand, but boots and gloves do mix up. Also it doesn't have to be all one color but two or three that coordinate.
One request we had was to match up the GK jerseys with footwear. So for example, the current T90 boot in red/maroon should have a matching jersey and glove to hook with it.
Of course that is extremely difficult with all to colors out there even in one company but we could hook to one or two.
well for my school season this year i wore all yellow nike shorts socks and shirt, with gold and brown ronaldinho's so im a big fan of matching everything and i really like all one color kits
i like to match my gloves to my outfit whenever possible cause i do think it looks terrible when a keeper is wearing gloves that completely throw off the look of his outfit i.e. a green and black outfit with red gloves is not my cup of tea
Somewhere in there the grace of a ballet dancer joins with the strength of an SAS squaddie, the dignity of an ancient kind, the nerve of a bomb disposal officer [on being a goalkeeper] -Eamonn Dunphy
Agree with the the others that looking smart helps you feel more professional. One of the great advantages to simple glove colours like black and white combo is that it's easy to match with kit. The Reusch Serie A in white goes with everything and like Justin I like to be in Adidas for jersey, shorts, socks and boots. This year wore the Parada in red/black with red shorts and black socks with the Predator boots in black/red. It's not all one colour but all matches well. Looking professsional just gives you that extra confidence.
I like to have the same colour socks as my jersey (Or white socks), but always black shorts.
I always wear black boots and always will! (Boots for GK's should be no other colour IMHO!).

well for my high school team i use an all Nike kit...socks/shorts/jersey and i really have a thing for white shorts so i wear those with white socks and the Grey Nike United jersey from a few years back with the black designs on the arm and side of the body. As for club, we are decked out in Adidas...i wear the Black/neon orange F50 jersey, black shorts and white socks. as for boots and gloves i stick to Nike for both. I currently have the Air Legends in White/red and T90 Gun Cuts in last years Blue/white.

I always try to match colours or if I can't I wear black shorts and black socks with any colour keeper top. I also try to match glove and boots colours but it's not often I can do that lol! Also I dont play with my top tucked in, I know it's more professional but I prefer it out.
Dida still needs a team! lol
Why be negative when you can be Positive? Beats me!
Keepers are criticised and praised, its the keepers choice to decide what to listen to.
I would really like to see a subtle matching uniform...not like how nike used to have that united kit with matching shorts and socks with the jersey.
For example, i would love to have a red jersey, black shorts with red trim or accent, than socks with red accent. Not the garish looking complete match but something that brings it all together.
And this could even be done in conjunction with a team wear uniform, doesnt have to necessarily be GK specific
With the kit (shirt, socks and shorts), I try to match that up with the same brand. Regardless of the kit brand, I try to match the boots and gloves with the same brand. I don't know why I do this, it's just something that would peeve me if I didn't go by these guidelines. Also with glove brands that do not have boot lines (i.e. Sells or Uhlsport), I just wear whatever boot I am comfortable with at the time. Usually a set of Nike Lasers.
When it comes to kit color, I like to have a minimum of two articles be of the same color, while the third piece would match an accent on the other two. Example: Nike Yellow Park II jersey with black stripe, Nike Yellow Socks with black stripe and swoosh, with Nike black shorts. I could also just go all the way with yellow shorts if I want to, but it just depends on my mood I guess.
When it comes to the equipment, I tend to go towards white boots. I don't usually go crazy with the colors. Gloves it doesn't matter what color it is, just as long it feels right to me. More of 'function' than 'form' guy when it comes to my gloves. When it comes to the equipment, gloves overpower boots, as in if I buy gloves of one brand, I tend to buy boots of that same brand assuming I have the budget for it.
I play with Adidas Predators/Response Pros at the moment. I have three different kits that I wear between my two teams, which are two versions of the Nike Park II kit (gray and yellow) and the infamous Cech Orange Kit minus the rugby helmet. :-P
