1st off its been the worse Monday in the history of the world today.

My right wrist is fubar.

Was late for training and when I did take up between the stick I've hurt my wrist, or rater one player from my team did.

I did hurt it last week as well but though it had healed.  Its alot worse this time.

I could feel my wrist thobbing up my Sell gloves after I switched, I clearly cant play this again.

Should I tape my wrist or maybe go for something like this

I know I need to start building up my muscles, as I may be playing next season.

Advice please.

1st off if its a re-occuring problem, get it checked out by a physio or your GP.

If all is ok then i think you need to work on your wrist strength.

I have a wrist curler which i use which is basically a rope with a handles on the end with a desired weight attached to the other end of the rope.

You twist the handles so the rope wraps around the middle of the handles and therefore pulling the weight up toward you. Once you have wound it right up unwind it again and repeat.

They can be found here- http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/aa/wrist.html

I would think light strapping will help, but rest and muscle development is the key here. You use the wrist so often it's not something you can risk rushing back. A simple stress ball will help wrist and hand muscle development and you can do it frequently.

Another option is a PowerBall, I've not tried these personally, but the theory sounds good - http://www.powerballs.com/index.php?m=Home

I have tried one of these and they are good, but i prefere the wrist curler.

I ordered that NIke support from greatsave and it will hopefully be here tomorrow for training that night.

I've never had this problem before when I was playing regularly, but that was maybe 5+ years ago. So its very annoying and disheartiong to say the least.

I googled (wrist excersises) this last night and seen about that power ball, I will just use a sponge ball for the moment. Tho the weight on the stick sound good to me.

It might alos help if I actually went back to the gym,but training with my team and work make this very hard. Not even taking into consideration Derry matches every Friday.

Thanks for all the replys

wrist feel a bit better today, should I rest this for a week or so before doing the excersises?

Definitely rest and ice until the swelling goes away. Once it's back to its normal size, begin strengthening.

What would you guys suggest for lingering pains? A high speed shot about two weeks ago injured my left wrist, which left me on the ground for a minute. After the game, I kept my wrist in ice cold ice-water and it definately helped. However, I'm still experiencing a small amount of pain (in games and if I put my hand in positions where it requires support from the whole arm) as I guess it's not fully healed. Would strengthing the wrists during this period help it recover?

Stregthening will help but it can also do more damage if you over do it.  It sounds like flexibilty is an issue.  Work on range of motion and stretching, but more importantly...see a doc to be sure you haven't done anything worse than just a tendon strain.

Have you had it x-rayed ?

Not to put a downer on it but could be the dreaded scaphoid fracture!

Had 2 operations and a bone graft when bust mine playing.... absolute pain !
