Received a phone call from Derby County, who were put on to me by Readers, who wanted to buy some childrens uhlsport gloves. I said that they did need Readers not me, despite what they had been told, and I apologised for the inconvenience.

7th March 1988 3.50

Billy O'Rourke, Tranmere, phoned to request some 034 size 8. I said that I was not aware that he was under contract, not having been informed by Readers. He said that he was and had been getting gloves during this season. I said that since August 1987 any requests for gloves should have been given to me, but I had not previously heard from him, but he said that he had been getting them from Readers. He had been told that he could have about 6 pairs a year free of charge. I informed him that I would have to look into it with Readers and would contact him again. His home phone number is xx .

8th March 1988 9.50

Chris Pearce, Burnley, phoned to say that he had received the gloves recently sent to him, but he wanted red smooth palms. I said that this was the style, 084, that Cocker's had requested for him. It was agreed that he would return 1 pair of 084 size 9 and I would send him a pair of 096 size 9. These were sent to him (No.54). With reference to his contract, he said that he signed a 2 year contract in the summer of 1987 which was given to the shop, Cocker & Son, for them to send to Readers with a request for a copy to be sent back. As yet nothing has been received back. He said that the contract stipulated that he could have up to a maximum 12 pairs of gloves a year. What I do not understand is if this has been in operation for 7-8 months, why have I not heard about it before, how has he been getting gloves earlier in the season? I informed him that I would try and sort out the situation, but with the change of staff at Readers, change of uhlsport agents, this may not be very simple.

8th March 1988 10.40

Jake Findlay, Coventry reserves, phoned to say that he had not received the gloves recently ordered. I told him that 2 pairs 034 size 9 were sent to him the same day that he requested them, 19th February my note (31), but I would send him another 2 pairs today, posted to him (No.55).

8th March 1988 12.15

Jonothon Sheffield, Norwich, phoned to see if there was any news on the jerseys. I informed him that there were no jerseys in England with Sperrin fabric, and that to be honest as he is only 3rd choice at Norwich there was a limit as to how much free goods he could be supplied with. Basically the agreement was to supply him with some gloves. He then asked for a pair of trousers and I agreed to send him a pair of 573 Large, (No.56).

8th March 1988 3.40

He wanted a Green/Grey stripe, which I assume to be German 518 Green XL. I informed them that there would be a delay as would have to come from Germany, I also asked if he used the jersey in matches regularly as I have seen team photos of him wearing Admiral. I was told that at the start of the season this was the case, but he now wears uhlsport.

15th March 1988 10.10

Stan Buggins, Tel: xx , phoned regarding the Nigel Spink testimonial brochure. I informed him that circumstances had changed since last November, when I had confirmed a third page advert for Readers, providing the invoice was drawn up in 1987. I told him that I would contact the new uhlsport agents to see if they would be prepared to take an advert.

15th March 1988 2.10-2.14

I phoned Stan Buggins and left a message that the advert is not required in the Nigel Spink brochure, as the new uhlsport distributors have not yet sorted out their advertising and will not be able to so in the time available.

He also asked about the chance of gloves for Tony Oliver, ex Portsmouth, who has just got into the Brentford team, and Mel Gwinnett at Exeter. I said by all means give them my phone number, although in the past both have been customers of Sukan Sports. I said that I was looking into a scheme for selling goods at reduced prices for P.F.A. members, which would cover both of these goalkeepers.

Nigel Spink, Aston Villa, phoned for some gloves saying that he would like to try different styles. He settled on 093 size 10, 021 size 10 and they were sent to him (No.64). I informed him that unfortuately there would not be an advert in his testimonial brochure because of Ligne 7 taking over from Readers. He asked about boots as he presently wears Nike, and gets about £xx a year from them in addition to free equipment. I said that I would pass this on to Claude Groleas of Ligne 7.

17th March 1988

Received from Topsport in Edinburgh some colour transparencies of Henry Smith, Hearts and Scotland, which are for uhlsport. I will hand them to Axel at Bournemouth.
