18th March 1988 10.25

Bryan Gunn, Norwich, phoned to request some more gloves as he had some stolen from the coach at Newcastle, 2 pairs 034 size 10 were sent to him (No.65). He also asked about boots as he presently uses Puma but does not get paid for this just free equipment. I said that I would ask Line 7 to contact him if they are interested.

18th March 1988 11.40

Mark Kendall, Wolves, phoned to ask for a pair of 021 size 8.5 and they were sent to him (No.66). He also wanted a jersey, but I said that as I did not have any stocks it would not be possible to get one to him quickly, and probably not this season.

18th March 1988 4.20

Jack Burkett a coach at Fulham phoned to see if there was any chance of their goalkeepers being sponsored. At the moment they have 3 professionals Jim Stannard, John Vaughan and Laurence Batty plus a youngster. Jim Stannard has had gloves in the past, but he is one I have told that as he is not under contract the situation will have to be looked at by the new distributors. In return for goalkeepers gloves and trousers etc., the club could offer programme advertising and possibly a perimeter board at the ground. I asked about match jerseys as Fulham wear Scoreline, and he said that could be considered. He also asked about boots as presently they use New Balance and again I said that I would check the situation and report back to him with answers.

21st March 1988 4.10

Received a phone call from Keith Granger of Darlington to say that he had received a letter from Sondico offering him free gloves. He wanted to know what the situation would be as he wanted to continue to support uhlsport. I said that no final decision had been reached, but I thought that all 3rd and certainly 4th Division goalkeepers would be offered gloves at reduced prices, basically what a shop would pay, rather than the free gloves they have had in the past. I said that I was seeing uhlsport and the new distributors on Sunday, and should know more then. The letter from Sondico arrived unexpectedly suggesting that they are just writing to everybody.

22nd March 1988 7.25

Received a phone call from Phil Parkes, West Ham, requesting a pair of 015 size 9.5, 1 pair 034 size 9.5 and these were sent to him (No.69). He also mentioned he was still waiting for £xx from his contract February 1987-February 1988.

23rd March 1988

Received a letter from Jonathan Stanger at the F.A. School, requesting sponsorship. Ian Walker at the school is under contract, Simon Sheppard at the school is not, but wears uhlsport, and so far he has been selected before Stanger for the England Schoolboys team. Will check with Claude before replying.

23rd March 1988 11.40

Received a phone call regarding advertising in official F.A. publication for the European Championships. He was given my number by Mark Wellbelove. It will be a 100 page A4 publication, print run of 150,000 and a full colour advert opposite photo of Peter Shilton would be £2,950. I said no as it was far too expensive.

25th March 1988

Received goods from Germany and was able to send 1 only 591 tracksuit Yellow size 8 to Bryan Gunn of Norwich (No.70), his request of 17th February.

25th March 1988

Received another phone call from Football Association regarding European Championship brochure. Price almost halved to £1,500 in 2 days, answer still no.

25th March 1988 4.05

Graham Benstead, Norwich, phoned to request 2 pairs 015 size 8.5, 2 pairs 034 size 8.5 which were sent to him (No.73). I informed him that I had just sent a tracksuit to him earlier in the day, and he told me that he was now on loan to Sheffield United for the rest of the season.

27th March 1988

Visited Bournemouth Trade Show to see Claude and Axel. Also saw Gerry Peyton of Bournemouth and John Burridge of Southampton who both visited the uhlsport stand.

28th March 1988 10.41-10.50

Phoned uhlsport in Germany, as agreed with Axel, to order goods for Gerry Peyton and John Burridge. 1 pair 019 (Orange) size 10 to be sent to Gerry Peyton at his home address xx , as required for Ireland photographs on Thursday April 7th. Other goods to be sent to Sukan for me to distribute.

29th March 1988 4.00

Steve Sherwood, Grimsby, phoned to request a pair of 015 size 10, and they were sent to him (No.74).

29th March 1988

Wrote to Nigel Spink of Aston Villa to send him a photocopy of his contract as requested, the photocopy having been given to me by Axel at Bournemouth.

29th March 1988

Wrote to Andy Goram, Hibernian, as I was told at Bournemouth that he was needing gloves as per his contract.

30th March 1988

Wrote to Jonathan Stanger at the F.A. School in reply to his letter requesting sponsorship. It offered him reduced price goods once the system is set up, details to be sent on once they are finalised.

30th March 1988

Wrote to Jack Burkett, Fulham, in reply to his telephoned enquiry of 18th March. I told him that uhlsport were entering into an agreement with Scoreline to supply uhlsport goods to goalkeepers of teams supplied by Scoreline. For other goalkeepers at the club, outside of the first team, I mentioned the proposed scheme for reduced price purchases. Fulham are in Division 3.

21st March 1988 1.25

Jonothan Sheffield, Norwich, phoned to request 1 pair 034 size 9.5 and they were sent to him (No.75).

31st March 1988 1.40

Hans Segers, Nottingham Forest, phoned to request 2 pairs 034 size 9, 2 pairs 015 size 9 and they were sent to him (No.76). He is now back to play at Nottingham Forest in the reserves, having finished spells on loan to Sheffield United and Dunfermline. He does not yet know where he will be next season, his contract is up, he has looked into returning to Holland but it does not look likely that any club will pay the £100,000 plus which Nottingham Forest will ask for. He again asked about his uhlsport contract being renewed but I said that due to the change in U.K. agents it was all a little confused at the moment, and with the uncertainty as to where he would be playing in the future, it was probably better to wait. I said that I knew that uhlsport would want to offer him a new contract but if he is looking for money, and he is, Nottingham Forest reserves will not be very worthwhile to uhlsport.

2nd April 1988

Wrote to Kevin Hitchcock, now transferred from Mansfield to Chelsea, and sent him a 2 year free goods contract to sign and return, along with one for him to keep.
