12th February 1990 4.55-5.13

I phoned Reinhard to tell him about Ludek Miklosko and it was decided to offer a 1 year contract £xx , World Cup matches if playing 1st Round games £xx each, 2nd Round £xx , Quarter-Final £xx , Semi-Final £xx , Final £xx .

12th February 1990 5.17-5.25

I phoned Colin Ludwig to pass on the offer. He said that the World Cup money was okay but wanted more for West Ham contract and other internationals including game v England at Wembley 25th April 1990 and European qualifying games. I said that I would pass on the comments to Germany and let him know tomorrow when I give him the goods at Reading. He said that a few months ago when the German club Bayer Uerdingen tried to sign him they offered him an uhlsport contract for DM. xx . I said that uhlsport in Germany is different to their overseas business but would pass this information on.

13th February 1990 8.57-9.09

I phoned Reinhard and he said to confirm £xx a year, but as uhlsport are currently in negotiations with Czechoslovakian Football Federation, and depending on outcome of these talks will decide whether the offer for the World Cup stands. If the offer uhlsport have made is accepted by the federation it would mean they are paying twice for the same person. Czechoslovakia is in the same World Cup group as Italy, Austria and United States. For the European Championships they are in the same qualifying group as France, Spain, Iceland and Albania.

13th February 1990

I closed down my business from mid-day to go to Reading F.C. to meet Ludek Miklosko and Colin Ludwig and hand over some goods. 1 only Promotional sweater, 1 pair 566 shorts XXL, 1 pair 578 trousers XL, 1 544 Green XL, 1 544 Silver XL, 1 pair 031 size 19, 1 pair 031 size 10.5, 1 pair 036 size 10, 1 pair 036 size 10.5, 1 pair 015 size 10.5, 1 pair 019 size 10, 1 glove bag (No.40). I explained the situation regarding the Czechoslovakian Federation and the World Cup, and it was agreed that we would wait until the situation was clarified. Mr. Ludwig said that he was in contact with the Federation and also could possibly get for uhlsport the other likely international goalkeeper, Jan Stejskal. I gave him Reinhard's phone number and suggested that he can always contact him direct, although I will do my best to keep everyone informed. Ludek did not have a particularly impressive game as West Ham reserves lost 2-0 top Reading reserves.

14th February 1990 9.00

Alan Knight, Portsmouth, phoned to request some gloves and 2 pairs 036 size 9.5 were sent to him (No.41).

14th February 1990 2.30

John Burridge, Newcastle, phoned to request some goods and 2 pairs 019 size 9, 2 pairs 036 size 9, 1 glove bag were sent to him (No.42). He also asked for money to wear an uhlsport jersey in a televised cup game against Manchester United on Sunday 18th February. He normally wears a 544 jersey and is not paid although he does get a great deal of free goods. I told him that I would pass on his request to Germany, but I expected the answer to be no.

15th February 1990 10.40

Reinhard phoned me and I told him the latest situation regarding Ludek Miklosko and that I had given his phone number to Colin Ludwig. It was agreed to await answers from uhlsport's negotiations before anything else happened. I told him that West Ham, with Phil Parkes playing, had lost the first leg of their semi-final 6-0 so there appeared to be no chance of a televised Cup Final appearance at Wembley. I also told him about the request from John Burridge and he said that he could not be paid any money.

15th February 1990 1.30

John Lukic, Arsenal, phoned me regarding his contract which he is sure should expire the summer of 1990, although all of the paperwork and information I have shows that it ends in the summer of 1991. His previous uhlsport contract arranged by Readers appears to have been a verbal agreement only, nothing in writing although a considerable amount of money was involved. His reason for thinking that it ended earlier than shown is that his boot contract with Patrick ends in December 1990, a 3 year contract from December 1987, and he says that his glove contract was 6 months before the boot contract. I told him that I would try to find out what I could but all the information that I have, and been involved with, shows that he now has a 3 year contract from July 1988-June 1991. Upon checking my written notes later this was confirmed. He told me that his accountant was checking the money that he has been paid by uhlsport as a double check. His home phone number is xx .

16th February 1990

I bought and sent to Reinhard this weeks issues of "Shoot" and "Match", along with a cutting from the Reading Evening Post about Ludek Miklosko,

John Burridge did not phone me for an answer regarding money for wearing an uhlsport jersey, but he wore an Umbro jersey in the televised match against Manchester United. Newcastle lost 3-2.

19th February 1990

21st February 1990 12.00

Reinhard phoned to say that it has been decided not to offer Ludek Miklosko any money either for West Ham or the World Cup. The reason is that the budget for the World Cup has now been spent. He asked me if I had seen the "Harpers" article on uhlsport, which I had and agreed that it should be good publicity. I asked again about shorts with logos down size and black socks with logo on.
