8th March 1990

I sent to Line 7 details of which goalkeepers wear which brand of gloves, for the English 1st and 2nd Division plus the Scottish Premier Division.

8th March 1990

I bought and sent to Reinhard this weeks issues of "Shoot" and "Match", along with a photocopy of the list sent today to Line 7.

9th March 1990 12.45

Bobby Geddes, Dundee, phoned to check my address as he wanted to send me a programme I had asked him for. He told me that he had strong words with the Dundee manager and at present is playing on loan at Kilmarnock in the Scottish Second Division. He wants to leave Dundee and is on the transfer list but does have 2 and a half years left on his Dundee contract.

9th March 1990

Having received a delivery from Line 7, I was able to send 2 pairs 036 size 9 to Alan Miller, Arsenal (No.52), balance of order from 6th March.

10th March 1990

I received a letter from Tony Norman, Sunderland, requesting some goods and 1 pair 036 size 9.5, 1 glove bag were sent to him (No.53).

13th March 1990 9.20

Jim McNamara of Line 7 phoned to ask for a pair of gloves in connection with an offer he had made to a Scottish retailer. 1 pair 036 size 9 were sent to him (No.54).

13th March 1990 2.30

Nicky Johns, Maidstone having signed from QPR yesterday, phoned to ask for 6 pairs of gloves and 2 pairs of trousers. I said that I would send him 2 pairs 040 size 9, 2 pairs 031 size 9 (No.55), but after that he would have to pay the special prices as Maidstone are a 4th Division club and the budget does not allow free goods for the 4th Division.

13th March 1990 4.25

Michael Watt, Aberdeen, phoned to order some goods and 2 pairs 043 size 9, 1 only 544 Silver XL, 1 pair 550 XL were posted to him (No.56).

19th March 1990 10.20

Tony Roberts, QPR, 20 years old reserve goalkeeper, phoned regarding the possibility of having gloves as I had discussed with Don Howe on 25th January. I told him that I would send him some goods along with a 2 year goods only contract, and if he was happy with the gloves he would then sign the contract. The reason for offering the contract to a reserve player is that there is every chance that the QPR first choice, David Seaman, will be transferred at the end of this season and Tony Roberts may get a chance to become first choice. He had told me that he had several times tried to phone me before but could not get an answer as he had been trying between 3.00 and 3.45 when I go to the bank/post office. 2 pairs 036 size 9, 1 pair 015 size 9, 1 pair 040 size 9, 1 glove bag were sent to him (No.58) to his home address xxx Tel; xx .

19th March 1990 4.10

Reinhard phoned me and I ordered some more promotional goods and asked about the 025 gloves ordered on 15th February and not yet received. I asked him if there was any news about logo striped shorts and socks with logos as previously asked about. He said that as yet there were no samples or prices. I said that from a contact in Holland I had received a 036 window sticker, and he said that yes they are available and would arrange for some to be sent to me. I also asked for some more goods only contract forms to be sent to me. We then talked about promotional budgets, calendars, posters etc., and I was informed that there were no answers although apparently the promotional budget at uhlsport has been already spent over the limit. I do not know if this is for U.K. only or for uhlsport as a whole. I again asked for the earliest possible answers so that I could try and plan what I wanted to do and I again stressed that I would prefer it to be with uhlsport but if they did not want to help, or were unable to, then I would have to try and work something out with their competitors. What I really want is co-operation and a willingness to try my ideas rather than money, so that uhlsport is already over spent on budget should not stop what I want to try. I ended by asking again for answers as soon as possible.

20th March 1990 1.05

Terry Gennoe, Blackburn, phoned to ask for some gloves and 2 pairs 031 size 9 were sent to him (No.59).

21st March 1990 10.05

Peter Shilton, Derby, phoned to request some goods for the World Cup, 6 pairs 036 size 9 and a pair of Air Safe shinguards. I said that I did not stock shinguards but would arrange for a pair to be sent to him by Line 7 and would send him at once 2 pairs 036 size 9 (No.60) with the others to follow when more were available. I asked him if his coaching video was available yet and he said no but it should be out before the World Cup.

Rhys Wilmot, Plymouth, phoned to request 2 pairs 036 size 9.5 and they were sent to him (No.61).

27th March 1990 2.30

Reinhard phoned to say that he had spoken to Jim Leighton, Manchester United, who wanted 2 pairs 036 size 10 and they were sent to him (No.63). He also asked me to check what gloves Taffarel wears for Brazil against England tomorrow as although Umbro say he has signed for them apparently it is not certain.

28th March 1990

It is my understanding that somebody from Reusch in Germany, was in London yesterday talking to Taffarel the Brazilian goalkeeper about a contract. Although he has signed for Umbro apparently there is a possible dispute on the contract and he is unhappy with the quality of the Umbro gloves. I do not know the result of the talks but will watch today's game with interest.
