I bought and sent to Bernd this weeks issues of "Shoot" and "Match".

25th April 1991

I prepared and sent to Peter Stewart at "Shoot" the latest listings in the SHOOT/uhlsport Goalkeeper of the Year competition.

30th April 1991 12.05

Herve phoned to ask if any goalkeepers had contacted me about contracts, and I said no. He then asked if I knew of any goalkeepers looking for contracts, and I said no. In the past when I was dealing with the promotional work I tried to find this information out by asking my contacts, but now I do not ask these questions. He said that Alan Main had asked for some goods, (he is thinking about the new contract offer) 2 pairs 036 size 9, 2 pairs 034 size 9, 1 pair 578 Large. I said that I had no 036 as still awaiting promotional stock ordered in December 1990, the 034 was discontinued over 2 years ago and its replacement 031 was now also sold out, and I did not stock the 578 trousers.

30th April 1991 2.55

Herve phoned to ask for a list of the current English 1st and 2nd Division goalkeepers, plus Scottish Premier.

1st May 1991 1.40

Dundee United phoned to request gloves for Alan Main. Both the 036 and 031 requested were not in stock so it was agreed I would send the nearest available. She said that gloves had been requested from Herve, but as yet have not arrived. Shortly after the phone call I learnt that Line 7 had received a delivery of 036 so I sent him 2 pairs 036 size 9 from Sukan stock (No.74).

1st May 1991

I prepared the list of goalkeepers requested by Herve yesterday, and gave the list to Claude when he called.

2nd May 1991 10.10

Graham Benstead, Brentford, phoned to request a pair of red palmed gloves and 1 pair 054 size 9 were sent to him (No.75).

2nd May 1991

I bought and sent to Bernd this weeks issues of "Shoot" and "Match", along with a copy of the goalkeepers list asked for by Herve.

2nd May 1991 4.05

Bobby Geddes, Kilmarnock, phoned to ask for 2 uhlsport catalogues and they were sent to him (No.76). I asked if he had tried the 060 and he said yes, but he had not found them any longer lasting than the other gloves.

3rd May 1991 1.25

Les Fridge, St.Mirren, phoned to say that after trying the Patrick gloves he had decided they were not good enough and therefore he would take another goods only contract with uhlsport. I said that I would tell Line 7 and get a contract sent to him for signature.

7th May 1991 11.15-11.18

I phoned Herve to ask about promotional stock but although a delivery was received from Germany last week I was told that they did not know what it was or if there were any promotional goods amongst it. He said that some goods were expected next week. I told him that Les Fridge, St.Mirren, would like a goods only contract, and he agreed that I should send him one.

7th May 1991

I wrote to Les Fridge, St.Mirren, and sent him 2 copies of a 2 year goods only contract with a request for him to sign one and return it to me.

9th May 1991

I bought and sent to Bernd this weeks issues of "Shoot" and "Match".

9th May 1991

I received back from Les Fridge, St.Mirren, a signed 2 year goods only contract.

13th May 1991 10.40

Erik Thorstvedt, Tottenham, phoned to request some gloves for the F.A.Cup Final on Saturday. I have still not received the 036 gloves ordered for promotional stock in December 1990, 5 MONTHS AGO, but in view of the importance of the game I sent him 2 pairs 036 size 9.5 from Sukan stock (No.77), which I had to buy from Line 7.

13th May 1991 11.17-11.22

I phoned Herve to tell him about Erik Thorstvedt needing gloves for the F.A.Cup Final. I said that 036 size 9.5 were ordered from Germany in December and I was still waiting. He said that they were now in Hayes and he would get them sent to me today. From information given on previous phone calls they arrived in Hayes by 1st May at the latest, why has it taken 12 days to send them to me?

14th May 1991 9.50

Gerry Peyton, Bournemouth, phoned for some gloves including 036 size 10. I told him that I did not have any 036 size 10 at the moment but was expecting some in the next few days. 1 pair 060 size 10 were sent to him (No.78).

14th May 1991 3.55

Herve phoned to say that he had been asked by Priti of Dundee United to send 036 and 031 gloves to Alan Main. I told him that I did not have any 031 but would send him 2 pairs 036 size 9 (No.79).

15th May 1991

Having received a delivery of promotional stock I sent to Gerry Peyton, Bournemouth, 1 pair 036 size 10 (No.80).

15th May 1991

I bought and sent to Bernd this weeks issues of "Shoot" and "Match".

15th May 1991 4.05

Priti of Dundee United phoned to ask for some 031 gloves for Alan Main. I told her again that this style was discontinued and no longer available. She said that she had asked Herve for some but had not received them. I said that he had asked me to send some 036 to Alan Main yesterday, which I had, in addition to those sent on 1st May. She wanted the nearest to the 031 as he wanted this grip for the adidas ball being used in the Scottish Cup Final on Saturday, so I suggested the 054, although Bernd had previously told me not to send out anymore styles that are now discontinued, but it is the only red palm I have. 2 pairs 054 size 9 were sent to him (No.81).

23rd May 1991 1.20

Bernd phoned to say that he was now back in Balingen, and to ask what was new. I said that on the contract side Herve was now doing this and I did not know what was happening with John Lukic. He said that Herve had offered him £xx , the same amount as he is currently paid, but apparently Sondico had offered him more. I said that at the moment the only English First Division goalkeeper who would use uhlsport next season was Ludek Miklosko, West Ham, so I felt that it might be worth trying to keep John Lukic.

23rd May 1991 4.50

Michael Watt, Aberdeen, phoned to ask if I had any 043 size 9 and I said no, it was not a stock line in the U.K. but I was trying to get some for him. He said that he had 1 pair left and was going away on a Scotland Under 21 tour.

24th May 1991

I bought and sent to Bernd this weeks issues of "Shoot" and "Match".

30th May 1991

I bought and sent to Bernd this weeks issues of "Shoot" and "Match".

4th June 1991 10.25

Alan Knight, Portsmouth, phoned to see what the situation was regarding a contract. His present 2 years goods only contract expires during the summer. I told him that I could not give an immediate answer but would contact him when I could give one. He would like the existing arrangement to continue.

4th June 1991 11.15

Les Fridge, St.Mirren, phoned to request some goods and 2 pairs 071 size 9, 1 pair 566 XL were sent to him (No.82). He also wanted a jersey, and I said that I had none available and he also asked for red palmed training gloves. I said that the only ones I had available were the 054 but uhlsport had told me not to send out discontinued styles.

4th June 1991 1.28-1.29

I phoned Line 7 to speak to Herve regarding Alan Knight etc. He was not in today, so I left a message for him to phone me tomorrow or as soon as possible.

5th June 1991

I bought and sent to Bernd this weeks issues of "Shoot" and "Match".

5th June 1991 1.23-1.32

I phoned Herve regarding renewal of contracts for Alan Knight etc., continuing of special offers for professionals. He said carry on, but told me that he was leaving England later this year and that on 3rd June a new boss for Line 7 in the U.K. started work, David Spensley, who had previously worked for Umbro, Gola and others in the sports trade, and that really it was better for me to discuss this and whether to continue the SHOOT/uhlsport competition with him rather than Herve. I then spoke to David Spensley and an appointment was arranged for 11 o'clock Thursday 13th June. I also asked Herve to send me as promotional stock some 040 sizes 9.5 and 10 which apparently they now had in stock, but I had not received from uhlsport although ordered 8th February.

5th June 1991 2.22-2.28

I phoned Peter Stewart of "Shoot" to ask if they were going to print details of the last league game between Manchester United and Tottenham so that I could complete the figures for the Goalkeeper of the Year competition. He said that it should be published next week. I also asked about the competition in general, and he said that they would be happy to continue with it next season.

10th June 1991 2.03-2.12

I phoned Bernd to order some promotional goods to be delivered as soon as possible, and chase outstanding orders.

11th June 1991

I prepared and sent to "Shoot" the final details for the SHOOT/uhlsport Goalkeeper of the Year. The winner was Andy Rhodes of Dunfermline.

11th June 1991 2.30

Steve Francis, Reading, came in to see me to find out if he could get sponsorship from uhlsport. I told him that he could not get a contract or free goods, the best that could be offered would be to buy at the special prices.

12th June 1991

I bought and sent to Bernd this weeks issues of "Shoot" and "Match".

12th June 1991 2.40

Parksy's sports shop phoned me regarding Graham Benstead. His uhlsport contract is up and he does not want to renew the contract, but wants to buy 12 pairs of gloves? I said that the arrangement for professionals to buy from Sukan Sports was that the price was about trade + 10% and really it should be Graham Benstead contacting me not the sports shop. If Parksy's wanted to sell him gloves they can obviously buy cheaper themselves direct from Line 7.

13th June 1991 12.30

David Spensley arrived with Herve, the appointment was for 11 o'clock but I had received a phone call at about 11.25 to say they would be late. He roughly outlined his plans for Line 7 which made a lot of sense and will greatly improve the situation if the plans materialise into action. I tried to give some ideas as to what I think should happen, and to pass on my frustration at the way my promotional work had gone over the last few years. On particular points he said renew goods only contracts where appropriate, continue with special sales to Football and Scottish League clubs, continue with SHOOT/uhlsport Goalkeeper of the Year competition. Herve told me that John Lukic had signed on again but did not tell me for how much, only that it was more than the original offer of £xx . He had also signed Henry Smith again for £xx , the same as his existing contract.

14th June 1991 10.35

Jim McNamara, Line 7 rep., phoned to ask about the situation regarding Pat Bonner. I said that as far as I knew for next season he has signed with Reusch and although he has used Reusch this season he has not been under contract. He said that Greaves Sports. 26 Gordon Street, Glasgow had given Pat Bonner goods recently, could they be sent goods in exchange. I said that I would do this. He also told me that his sales area was being changed and that in the future he would be covering the north of England only, not Scotland.

14th June 1991

I sent to Greaves Sports with a note 1 pair 036 size 9, 2 pairs 554 XL (No.83).

15th June 1991

I received a letter from Roger Freestone, requesting a renewal of his uhlsport goods only contract for 1991-92.

18th June 1991 9.44-9.54

I phoned Bernd to ask him to send me some more goods only contract forms. He said that they did not have an agent at the moment in Australia, and he will be going over there in a few weeks to try and arrange a new agent. I said that there are reports that Peter Schmeichel of Brondby will be joining Manchester United. I asked what is the position as he is in the uhlsport catalogue but last season was wearing Reusch. Bernd said that he had been offered a new uhlsport contract but had not signed it and he knew he was wearing Reusch. I then asked if he knew that Henry Smith had been given a new £xx a year contract. He said that it had been agreed by him with Herve. My comment was that as I understood there was not much money available for signing players under contract, to pay for a 35 year old in the reserve team for the last third of last season in Scotland seemed surprising. He said that he was happy for the SHOOT/uhlsport competition to continue next season. I finally asked if he could let me know what posters are available as I would like to be able to offer them to my customers.

19th June 1991

I wrote to Alan Knight, Portsmouth, sending him a new 2 year goods only contract in response to his earlier request.

19th June 1991

I wrote to Roger Freestone, Chelsea, to say that I was not able to offer him a new contract. The reason I gave was that last season he did not make any league appearances and the season before only loan appearances with Swansea in Division 3 and Hereford in Division 4. He could buy at the special prices.

19th June 1991

I bought and sent to Bernd this weeks issues of "Shoot" and "Match".
