CHAPTER TEN

Leslie Fridge, St.Mirren reserves, phoned to request 2 pairs 015 size 9 and a Red XL and Blue XL jersey. I said that although it was not through me, I understood that he had already received several jerseys this season. He said that the ones he had received had sponsors names put on them, but now the club had changed sponsors. He said that he can wear the jersey in matches, but although he has played twice for the first team recently, he is second choice to Campbell Money.

Jake Findlay, Coventry, phoned to request some gloves. He wanted some with pink palm, white back and a pink finger. I could not decide which gloves he wanted, he did not know the code, so he was going to check on the code from a box he has, and then get back to me.

10th December 1987 1.25

Mark Kendall, Wolves, phoned to ask whether his order, received by me on 3rd December, had been sent out yet. It was for 2 pairs 021 size 8.5. If there is a problem he will accept 014 size 8.5. Upon checking with Readers I was told that 2 pairs 084 had been sent 4th December.

Jake Findlay, Coventry, phoned to request 3 pairs 034 size 9. I asked him about a contract, and he said that he had never been asked to sign one, although he has had gloves for about 2 years. When he was getting Sondico gloves, while at Luton, he had to sign a contract.

Mrs.Megs Wilson phoned regarding 1988 Goalkeepers Schools. She said that she had a long discussion with Mark Wellbelove regarding uhlsport sponsorship, and had been informed that circumstances did not allow any committment at the moment, although there was an interest for the future. She said that for 1988 Bob Wilson would continue with Mitre for the goalkeeping schools, and also on a personal level.

14th December 1987 1.15

John Shaw, Exeter, phoned to request 2 pairs 034 size 8.5. I asked if he was under contract and he said no, but had been told by Murray Nissen to just phone up and ask for gloves as long as he was a professional goalkeeper. I told him that I would endeavour to get these 2 pairs of gloves sent to him, but pointed out that unfortunately a great number of goalkeepers were getting free of charge goods, far more than the company realised or had given contracts to. I said that the whole situation was under review and if a change which would involve him was being made he would be informed. Send to his home address xx .

14th December 1987 3.00

Saw Phil Parkes, West Ham, and told him that as yet there was no news on his contract money. He took a pair of 034 size 9 for Tom McAlister, the current first choice at West Ham.

Chris Turner, Manchester United, phoned to request goods to be sent to his home address. xx . He wants 2 pairs 034 size 8 (he wore out 2 pairs at the recent indoor 6 a side), 2 only 26/28" jerseys for his sons, and any news of the 1 piece suit ordered with Eric Howes. On his last call to me on 9th November he asked for 2 Large jerseys which have reached him safely. However they are too small, can he be sent XL preferably Green or Yellow, and he will return the Large.

14th December 1987 4.55

Alan Knight, Portsmouth, phoned to request 3 pairs 015 size 9.5 to be sent to his home address xx . He is now wearing the most recent jersey sent to him, which I think was the 500 Silver XL, and the club want to speak to somebody about selling them in the club shop. The person to contact is Les Allen at Portsmouth F.C. Tel; 0705 827111. Alan Knight also asked if it was possible for him to have a Small 500 jersey for a raffle in aid of the Great Ormond Street Hospital.

I asked him about his personal circumstances, and his Nottingham Forest contract is up at the end of the season, but he would like to stay in England either with Forest or somewhere else.

16th December 1987 9.20

Bryan Gunn, Norwich, phoned to request 1 pair 573 trousers XL and 2 pairs 034 size 10 ( 040 if unavailable). He wants the goods for Christmas/New Year games.

Keith Granger, Southampton 3rd team goalkeeper phoned, (currently playing in reserves while Tim Flowers is on loan to Swindon) to request 2 pairs 021 size 9, or 084 as alternative. I said that although he has been given gloves before, a great deal of change was taking place in the issuing of free equipment, as too many people were getting it who are not under contract. I said that I would pass his request on. He wants the gloves sent to his home address xx . I would say that he was not worth free gloves but an ideal candidate for buying at trade prices.

16th December 1987 3.50

Stuart Naylor, W.B.A., phoned to say that as yet he has not received the gloves he requested with me on 4th December. I checked with Readers who could not trace any gloves having been sent to him and as Mark Wellbelove was not in, could not do anything today. I asked that the gloves be sent first class as soon as possible.

16th December 1987

As Stuart Naylor urgently requires gloves I sent him a pair of 040 size 9, so hopefully he will at least have one pair for Friday
