Mark Kendall, Wolves, phoned to request 1 pair of 021 size 8.5, urgently required and they were sent to him first class (No.96). He was in a call box so could not talk for long but I asked him if he was wearing Reusch gloves at the previous week-ends Centenary Tournament at Wembley. At first he said NO, then changed it to YES (I had seen him wearing Reusch on TV highlights) and then his money ran out. Wolverhampton are one of the teams Axel said are changing to Scoreline next year, so presumably he will next season get uhlsport gloves through Scoreline.

Nigel Spink, Aston Villa, phoned to request 1 pair 093 size 10, 1 pair 014 size 10 and they were sent to him (No.97).

Pat Jennings, ex Northern Ireland goalkeeper, phoned to talk about a contract. He retired from football after the 1986 World Cup but still plays for various teams around the world. He is flying off to Japan today to play for the team that Pele is organising to raise money for AIDS. The game in Tokyo on April 22nd is being played in the new Tokyo Dome. He has just returned from playing in Bahrain, Dubai, Thailand along with Johnny Rep, Paul Breitner, George Best, Kevin Keegan etc. He says that he has used uhlsport for many years without receiving payment, and now he would like a contract. I asked him if he could give me an idea as to how much money and how long a contract he was looking for, but he would not say. I asked him about clothing, but he said that in most of the big charity games adidas usually supplied the kit and sponsor in some way, so he would have to wear adidas, but when he does coaching clinics he could wear uhlsport. I certainly think that he is worth offering something to but it is difficult to know how much. It is really a gesture of thank you for the help given in the past, as although he is certainly well liked and respected he does not get much publicity in England these days. His home phone number is xx .

Nicky Johns, QPR, phoned to request sponsorship for a footballing course that he is running in the summer. It is for all footballers, not just goalkeepers, and I said that it is not really viable for uhlsport, and suggested that he try a local company for sponsorship, like the local newspaper.

John Burridge, Southampton, phoned to ask for 2 pairs 014 size 9, and they were sent to him (No.98).
He also asked about the overall and I informed him that as yet it had still not arrived. He then went on to ask for various other items including 675 Tri Safe shinguards, holdall and tracksuit. I said that none of these goods were immediately available but I would make a request with Germany. He also said that he is still being contacted by Sondico, but has told them that he is staying with uhlsport. His contract has now expired, and after the discussion at Bournemouth what did you want done about a contract?

Sammy Chung, Stoke, phoned to see if uhlsport would continue with the existing arrangements, and I said yes. This means 9 jerseys (3 Green, 3 Grey, 3 Blue) in Extra Large 44", along with free gloves for Scott Barrett and Peter Fox (who both have 040) and the club will pay reduced prices for gloves for any other young goalkeepers they have. I asked him if they still have Admiral kit, and he said yes as far as he knows. As you will know Admiral recently went bankrupt again, and apparently the business has been bought by Glasgow Rangers, who want to do what Tottenham Hotspur are trying to do with Hummel, that is be in the sports business in a big way. He would like the jerseys in time for the new season, Stoke will arrange for sponsorship printing. I asked him if he could get the goalkeepers to wear the gloves in the team photos, and suggested if they were looking for a different team photo why not have the goalkeepers in the front, either side of the manager.
22nd April 1988 11.40
Terry Gennoe, Blackburn, phoned to say that he had spoken to the manager, Don Mackay, regarding wearing uhlsport jerseys in matches, but the manager has refused permission. Terry Gennoe is happy to wear the jersey but cannot without the clubs agreement. The club has not checked whether the kit supplier has any objections. I suspect that either they want money or think that the kit supplier will be upset. What do you want me to do?

John Lukic, Arsenal, phoned to request a pair of 015 size 9 to be sent to his home address first class, and they were sent to him (No.99). He said that he does have a couple of pairs but wanted a new pair for the Littlewoods Cup Final at Wembley on Sunday. I asked him if he had received the 1 piece overall and he said yes and that it was good, although made him sweat a lot.
28th April 1988
Saw a report in "Match" saying that Alan Rough of Hibernian had had his contract cancelled so that he could go to the United States and coach in Florida. He is under uhlsport contract until 25th May 1989 at £xx a year. I have tried to phone him but no answer.
29th April 1988 10.05-10.21
I phoned Axel to try and get some answers to my letters regarding my work for the professionals and next season. He said that letters were on their way to me with most of the answers I was looking for, they were sent to me earlier this week. I then mentioned the problems that I was having with Line 7 regarding getting supplies for Sukan Sports. He was aware of the situation, having been contacted by the French parent company, and had told them that I should be supplied and accepted as a good customer, until the account gets going and they can then decide for themselves. I also mentioned that I had not received any other offer from Claude regarding special terms, co-operative advertising etc. etc. Because of my anger at the situation on supply I also informed him that as yet no copies of "France Football" had been received as requested, although "Kicker" had been arriving since the beginning of March. Axel said that he was next due in England in about 5 weeks and hopefully the problems would have been resolved by then.
I have not heard from Kevin Hitchcock, Chelsea, regarding my letter of 2nd April and I assume that he is rejecting the offer and signing for Reusch. Eddie Niedzwiecki the injured Chelsea goalkeeper is very close to Reusch and often tries to get other goalkeepers to sign for them.
