CHAPTER THIRTY

26th September 1988 2.35

Kevin Poole, Middlesborough, phoned to request 2 pairs 034 size 8.5 and they were sent to him (No.89).

26th September 1988 2.45

Theo Snelders, Aberdeen, phoned to request some goods and 3 pairs 015 size 10,1 pair 096 size 10, 1 543 Yellow XL, 1 glove bag, 1 cap were sent to him (No.92). He also asked for 2 pairs trousers and I said that I did not have any but would send them on soon. I asked him about a contract as he was happy to wear uhlsport gloves in Holland, and offered £xx a year for 3 years. He said that the money was the same as offered in Holland but he had not signed there because they wanted him to do so many other things like summer camps etc. I said that this would not apply over here and basically the £xx was just for wearing the gloves. He then asked about wearing uhlsport jerseys in matches and I said that if he could get Aberdeen and Umbro to agree I would send him the jerseys. I did not think that Umbro would agree, even to an uhlsport jersey with an Umbro badge on, the sort of thing that happens quite often on the continent. He said that he would check with the club.

27th September 1988 12.40

Gerry Peyton, Bournemouth, phoned to request some gloves and 1 pair 013 size 10, 1 pair 024 size 10 were sent to him (No.90). He said that for match gloves he was given several pairs by Axel during the European Championships. He had a contract for these championships, when he did not play, and was wondering if they wanted a new contract for the World Cup Qualifying matches as he played against Northern Ireland and with Pat Bonner still injured he is presently first choice for Ireland. I said that I would have to check with Germany, and informed him that Axel had now left them. He also asked if he could have a pair of 559 padded undershorts.

27th September 1988 1.55

Vince O'Keefe, Blackburn, phoned to ask for some gloves. I said that Reusch were advertising him as one of their contracted players and they had informed me that he had signed a contract with them. He denied having signed a contract with Reusch but agreed that he had tried out their gloves, but said that he much prefered uhlsport. We agreed that the situation should be resolved and he said that he would contact Reusch and sort it out.

27th September 1988 2.15

Vince O'Keefe, Blackburn, phoned back to say that he no longer required uhlsport gloves as he had spoken to Reusch and they had offered him a paid contract and gloves with his own name on, which he had agreed to. I do not think that he is worth any money as Blackburn are a 2nd Division team and because of a broken leg he has not played for their first team for over a year. We agreed that he would no longer get uhlsport goods free of charge.

30th September 1988 9.35

Nigel Spink, Aston Villa, phoned to request 1 pair 019 size 10, 1 pair 015 size 10 and they were sent to him (No.93). He also asked if there was a cheque ready for him. I said that I did not normally get involved with money, but would pass on his request to Germany. The information that I was given by Readers states that he gets £xx a year and is under contract until June 1989.

30th September 1988

Handed to Phil Parkes, West Ham, the £xx cheque which has at last been received from Readers (No.94).

1st October 1988 9.35-9.38

I phoned Neville Southall's wife to say that at last the goods that could be supplied had been sent off to the club. The items that are not available in the U.K. had been ordered by me from Germany.

3rd October 1988 12.30

Eric Hall the agent for Dave Beasant of Newcastle, phoned to see if uhlsport were interested in offering him a contract as he has now severed his links with Cannonball. I said that I would pass the information on and asked him what sort of price he would be looking for. He said £xx a year. In my opinion he would not be worth this amount. He is 29 years old and has not represented England at any level with most of his career being at Wimbledon in the lower divisions. I would suggest that the £xx level the same as Nigel Spink etc. His phone number is xx .

5th October 1988 9.40

Bryan Gunn, Norwich, phoned to see if the trousers had arrived. I said that I had just received some trousers from Germany but the Extra Large had about 37" inside leg instead of the usual 33"/34". As he desperately needs a pair it was agreed that a pair would be sent for him to try (No.95). I then asked about his contract which is due for renewal at the end of this year. I confirmed the uhlsport offer of £xx (presently £xx ) and he said that he was still thinking about it. Puma wanted him for gloves but he says that he is not happy with the quality of the gloves they are offering him. It was left for him to let me know.

5th October 1988 10.20

Stuart Naylor, W.B.A., phoned to request 1 pair 019 size 9, 1 pair 093 size 9, and they were sent to him (No.96).

5th October 1988 12.10

Phil Parkes, West Ham, collected a pair of 554 trousers XL (No.97).

5th October 1988 1.15

Jake Findlay, Coventry, phoned to request 2 pairs 034 size 9, and they were sent to him (No.98).
