CHAPTER FOURTY TWO

30th March 1989 1.10

Joe Neenan, Peterborough, phoned to request 1 pair 084 size 9, 2 pairs 021 size 9 and they were sent to him (No.94).

31st March 1989 10.05

Terry Gennoe, Blackburn, phoned to request 1 pair 554 trousers XL, 2 pairs 096 size 9 and they were sent to him (No.95).

31st March 1989

I received a letter from Bobby Geddes, Dundee, enclosing newspaper photos of the Rangers v Dundee United Cup game showing them using a Mitre ball. The cuttings will be sent on to Reinhard.

31st March 1989

I bought and sent to Reinhard this weeks issues of "Shoot" and "Match".

31st March 1989

I wrote to Alan Main, Dundee United, to offer him a 2 year goods only contract.

31st March 1989

I wrote to Les Fridge, St.Mirren, to offer him a 2 year renewal to his goods only contract.

3rd April 1989 12.10

Sammy Chung, Stoke City, phoned to request 2 pairs 040 size 9 for Scott Barrett and 2 pairs 040 size 9 for Peter Fox, and they were sent to him (No.96). He also asked about jerseys for next season, as this season they wore uhlsport jerseys although the team used Admiral, but next season the team will be wearing Scoreline. I said that this season there was an agreement between uhlsport and Scoreline but I did not know what was happening next season. I told him that I would check it out and that next time he phoned I would be able to give him an answer.

3rd April 1989 4.21-4.33

I phoned Scoreline to speak to Peter Simmons but he was not there, so I spoke to Chris Richardson. I asked about the Stoke City situation and he said that he would find out and let me know, or Eric Partridge would contact me. At the moment it was not known what they were doing for goalkeepers jersey for next season.

4th April 1989 12.05

Dundee United phoned regarding my letter offering a contract to Alan Main, their reserve goalkeeper. They asked if he could be offered money as well, and I said no, as he was being offered this contract on future possibilities rather than present value. Dundee United reserves get virtually no publicity but as he is a Scotland Under 21 international hopefully uhlsport will get some value from it. While he was thinking it over 1 pair 092 size 9, 1 pair 034 size 9, 1 pair 015 size 9, 1 glove bag were sent to him (No.97).

5th April 1989

I received back from Les Fridge, St.Mirren, a signed 2 year goods only contract and this was sent on to Reinhard.

5th April 1989 10.50

Nigel Spink, Aston Villa, phoned to request 2 pairs 015 size 10 and they were sent to him (No.98). I asked if the jersey sent to him recently for his son was acceptable and he said yes.

5th April 1989 3.55

Reinhard phoned to ask about a Sondico price list and catalogue. I said that they had not produced a catalogue yet but as soon as they were available I would send him one. With reference to Ian Rush shinguards, Sondico are asking for orders now but they have no stocks yet and tell me that they will not be supplying any goods until July.

6th April 1989

I received back from Alan Main, Dundee United, a signed 2 year goods only contract and this was sent on to Reinhard.

6th April 1989 2.25

John Lukic, Arsenal, phoned to request some goods for himself 3 pairs 015 size 9, 2 pairs 040 size 9 and for Alan Miller 1 pair 015 size 9, 1 pair 025 size 9, 2 pairs 040 size 9 and for Andrew Marriott 1 pair 025 size 9, 1 pair 040 size 9. The Arsenal reserve, Alan Miller, is only 18 but already an England Under 21 international and within football he is expected to become a really big star, possibly the next Peter Shilton. I told John Lukic that we have been supplying Alan Miller with gloves for 2 seasons but he is not under contract so could he ask him if he would be prepared to sign a goods only contract. I think that he will ask for a money contract and if it is within reason I would suggest giving it to him as he would appear to have great potential. For John Lukic's help I sent him a Holdall, 2 Tee shirts, 1 Casual shirt. All goods were sent (No.100).

6th April 1989

At the request of John Lukic I sent to Rhys Wilmot, the Arsenal goalkeeper presently on loan to Plymouth, 2 pairs 015 size 9.5, 2 pairs 040 size 9.5, and they were sent to him (No.99).

6th April 1989 3.55

Alan Knight, Portsmouth, phoned to request 1 pair 015 size 9.5 and they were sent to him (No.1). He is presently out of the first team and both his club and his uhlsport contract finish in the summer, so I will keep a look out for any news of his future.

8th April 1989

I wrote to Stuart Naylor, W.B.A., as his goods only contract expired today. I offered him another goods only contract for either 1 or 2 years if he was interested. W.B.A. are in the 2nd Division.

11th April 1989 4.50

Theo Snelders, Aberdeen, phoned to ask if I had any more 096 size 10 left and I said no. He then asked if I had any of the new 036 yet and again I said no, but that they should be available for next season. I told him that I would send him some 036 as soon as they were available.

12th April 1989 4.20

Jim McNamara, a Line 7 rep, phoned to ask for gloves for the St.Johnstone goalkeeper, John Balavage. St.Johnstone are in the semi final of the Scottish Cup and Line 7 are arranging boot sponsorship. 2 pairs 034 size 10, 1 cap were sent to a local sports shop for him. County Sports. 8/14 St.Johns Street, Perth. PH1 5SP. (No.2).
