CHAPTER FOURTY SIX

1st June 1989 2.55

Reinhard phoned regarding the special 019 (Green) gloves. He also asked about Phil Parkes and the coaching that he does in Denmark as uhlsport's agent in Denmark, S Sport, had asked him about it. I explained the situation as best as I could and gave him Phil's home address and phone number. Reinhard asked who organised the courses and this I do not know, but said that I would find out. The Danish agent is organising his own goalkeeping courses and perhaps this may be of interest to Phil Parkes.

1st June 1989

Received back from Alan Miller, Arsenal, a signed 1 year goods only contract.

1st June 1989

I bought and sent to Reinhard this weeks issues of "Shoot" and "Match".

5th June 1989 1.40

Graham Benstead, Sheffield United, phoned to see if he could have a contract for next season. The club has been promoted from the 3rd to the 2nd Division and for this past season he has been buying gloves at special prices. Prior to that he had been getting free goods as a reserve at Norwich. I told him that as yet no final decision had been made as to how many goalkeepers uhlsport wanted under contract, but I thought that there was every chance he would be offered one. I told him that I would let him know as soon as possible.

6th June 1989 4.10

Bobby Geddes, Dundee, phoned to request 1 pair 554 trousers XL and they were sent to him (No.19). He said that last year he was sent goods direct from Germany but as yet he has not heard from them. I told him that he could either contact Germany himself as previously, or let me know of his requirements, as I was still looking after the contracted goalkeepers in the U.K.

7th June 1989

I bought and sent to Reinhard this weeks issues of "Shoot" and "Match".

7th June 1989 4.30

I received a phone call from a Swansea sports shop regarding uhlsport supplying footballs for Swansea City. He had been given my name by Line 7, but I pointed out that I would happily pass on any requests for him but I was not involved with footballs only with goalkeepers. Although Swansea City will be in the European Cup Winners Cup next season I told him that I did not think that uhlsport would be interested, although I again stressed that it was nothing to do with me. I suggested that he got back on to Line 7 if he wanted sponsorship or contracts for footballs.

8th June 1989

I wrote to Reinhard to request some promotional stock in preparation for next season, asking for the goods to be sent through Line 7, to avoid me paying VAT.

9th June 1989 1.05

Bobby Geddes, Dundee, phoned to say that the trousers had arrived and he would like the following goods for next season. 3081 Tracksuit White size 6, 5403 Tracksuit Lagoon/Silver Med, 5403 Tracksuit Lagoon/Silver Small, 5404 Tracksuit Green/Red Med, 3053 three quarter length Coach Jacket Large, 5452 Jacket Silver/Yellow Large x 2, 5450 Trousers Silver Large x 2, 5554 Trousers XL x 2, 5650 Jersey Green Large, 5543 Jersey Yellow Large, 5650 Jersey Yellow Large, 5544 Jersey Sky Large, 5544 Jersey Green Large, 4009 Glove bag x 2, 4006 Holdall, 4007 Holdall, 040 gloves size 9 x 12, 015 gloves size 8.5 x 5, 036 Gloves size 8.5 x 5.

His contract was arranged with uhlsport by Bernt Killat, who he thought must work for uhlsport. He said that previously he had been contacted by Germany to see what he wanted, and this had then been sent to him direct. In my opinion this is too much in the way of goods for a goalkeeper who is not really amongst the best or with one of the best clubs. I told him that I would pass his request on to Germany as he had asked me to.

9th June 1989

I wrote to Reinhard to order the goods just ordered with me by Bobby Geddes.

14th June 1989

I bought and sent to Reinhard this weeks issues of "Shoot" and "Match".

15th June 1989 12.12-12.21

I phoned Phil Parkes to tell him about the interest of uhlsport's Danish agent in his goalkeeping courses. The address given was Knud Christensen. S Sport. Herftedvong 2E, 2620 Alberslund. nr. Copenhagen. Tel: xx . He is leaving for Denmark very soon and will contact them if he gets the chance. Phil's address in Denmark will be xxx , Tel: xx .

16th June 1989 2.36-2.39

I phoned Reinhard to try and find out the latest news. I was told that he was on holiday until 26th June and so I spoke to Margaret and asked her about the promotional goods ordered in my letter of 8th June. She said that the letter had arrived and that at least some of the goods should be despatched in about 2/3 weeks.

19th June 1989 12.35

Alan Main, Dundee United, phoned to request some gloves and 2 pairs 015 size 9, 1 pair 031 size 9 were sent to him (No.20). He originally wanted the 034 but as these are no longer available I sent 031 instead.

19th June 1989 2.45

Margaret of uhlsport phoned me to say that the goods I had requested for promotional work, my letter 8th June, can be supplied gloves and trousers week 27 (first week of July), jerseys week 28 (second week of July).

21st June 1989

I was speaking to Ian Mellor of Puma who told me that they have signed Steve Ogrizovic of Coventry from Sondico. This has not yet been officially announced and the gloves that he will be using will be Taiwan made copying the Pakistan made Umbro gloves, as they do for Mike Hooper of Liverpool. In the future they will probably have new models made up, but unlikely for the 1989-90 season.

21st June 1989 3.00

Alan Knight, Portsmouth, phoned to see if uhlsport would be interested in offering him a new contract. His goods only contract ends in July. I asked him if he has re-signed with Portsmouth, at the end of last season it was reported that he was looking to change clubs, and he confirmed that he had signed a new 3 year contract with them. I said that I could offer him a 2 year contract for goods only, and would send it to him in the post along with an uhlsport catalogue that he asked for. I pointed out that not everything in the catalogue was available in the U.K.

22nd June 1989

I sent to Alan Knight a catalogue along with a 2 year goods only contract (No.21).

22nd June 1989

I bought and sent to Reinhard this weeks issues of "Shoot" and "Match".

26th June 1989

I wrote to Graham Benstead, Sheffield United, to send him a 2 year goods only contract.
