John Burridge, Southampton, phoned to ask for some more gloves and 2 pairs 019 size 9, 1 pair 031 size 9, 1 pair 040 size 9 were sent to him (No.43).

25th July 1989 3.55

Henry Smith, Hearts, phoned to request 2 pairs 036 size 9 and they were sent to him (No.44). He also told me that he has asked the club if he can wear uhlsport jerseys in matches and they have said yes.

26th July 1989

I bought and sent to Reinhard this weeks issues of "Shoot" and "Match".

26th July 1989 4.00

Kevin Pressman, Sheffield Wednesday, phoned to request some goods and 3 pairs 036 size 9, 1 pair 019 size 9, 1 pair 031 size 9, 1 glove bag, 1 pair 550 XL, 1 pair 554 trousers XL were sent to him (No.45). He also wanted a pair of 015 size 9, but these are not available at the moment and will be sent on when available. He also asked about getting tracksuits, wet weather training clothing etc., but I said that these items were not sold or stocked in the U.K. and I could not help.

26th July 1989 4.15

Ian Walker, Tottenham, phoned to ask if he could still get free gloves and I said no as the 2 year agreement Readers had entered into had now expired. I said that it was my intention to write to him next week to inform him of the situation and enclosing the leaflet giving the reduced prices for Football League clubs. He is 4th choice at Tottenham at the moment.

27th July 1989 4.15

Herve phoned from Line 7 to ask about the promotional work for E.X.S.L., as he had spoken to Reinhard. I said that I had spoken to Reinhard on Monday and we had talked about 5 goalkeepers attending, although Herve was talking only about Peter Shilton, John Lukic and Erik Thorstvedt attending. I agreed that it was a very good idea as the goalkeepers got a lot of money and did very little for it. I also said that a photographer should be at E.X.S.L. to try and get use of publicity photos later. Herve asked if I was contacting the goalkeepers and I said that Reinhard had told me that he would contact them by letter, but if I spoke to them for any reason I was going to mention E.X.S.L. to them. Herve confirmed that Line 7 in France was closed from 28th July until 28th August although Herve would be back at work on 21st August.

28th July 1989 11.40

Jim McNamara of Line 7 phoned to say that Pat Bonner, Celtic, had been buying uhlsport gloves from a Glasgow shop, Greaves Sports, because he was unhappy with the Umbro gloves. I said that last year at the European Championships Axel had spoken to Pat Bonner about signing for uhlsport but apparently he was either not interested or could not be interested as he was under contract to Umbro. Jim asked me to send a pair of 554 trousers XL c/o Greaves Sports and this I did (No.46). I said that uhlsport must be interested if Pat Bonner wants a glove contract and Jim would continue to look into it with Greaves Sports.

28th July 1989 12.45

Reinhard phoned to say that he was contacting the goalkeepers regarding visiting E.X.S.L. and Erik Thorstvedt had already said yes. He wanted John Lukic's address and phone number which I gave him. He already knew how to contact Peter Shilton, Neville Southall and Jim Leighton. I told him about Pat Bonner and he said that uhlsport were interested but really there was no budget left, so it depended on how much money he might want. I said that we would continue to look into the position.

31st July 1989 10.10

Tony Godden, phoned to request some gloves and I told him that as his contract had expired 29th May, uhlsport had decided that they did not wish to renew it, and I was due to write to him in the next few days to say this along with enclosing a special price leaflet if he was interested. He said that he was very disappointed as during the better days of his career he had always worn uhlsport without being paid money. I told him that I would pass on his feelings to uhlsport but I did not anticipate any change of mind as there appeared no chance of Tony Godden playing anymore League football in either Division 1 or 2.

2nd August 1989

I bought and sent to Reinhard this weeks issues of "Shoot" and "Match".

3rd August 1989 1.20

Tom Carson, Dundee, his wife phoned to request some gloves and 2 pairs 083 size 8.5, 2 pairs 036 size 8.5 were sent to him (No.47). I also sent an uhlsport catalogue (he had apparently asked for one from Germany a couple of weeks ago) and pointed out that uhlsport would like him to choose from 031, 040, 019, 015, 036 gloves if at all possible.

7th August 1989 8.50

Jim Stannard, Fulham, phoned to ask for some gloves. I told him that the arrangement between Fulham and Scoreline, where uhlsport jerseys and gloves would be supplied, no longer applied. He was welcome to buy gloves at the special reduced prices but could not have any free of charge. Last season he did have 5 pairs of gloves free of charge, and then the club bought a few more pairs at the reduced prices later in the season.

7th August 1989 4.20

Sammy Chung, Stoke, phoned to say that all of the goods supplied pre-season were okay. He asked for 2 only glove bags and they were sent to him (No.48). He also asked about goalkeepers caps, but I told him that I did not have any available at the moment, I was expecting the next delivery in September.

8th August 4.00

Theo Snelders, Aberdeen, phoned to request some goods and 2 pairs 031 size 10, 1 pair 036 size 10, 1 pair 550 XL, 1 pair 554 trousers XL, 1 only 543 Yellow XL were sent to him (No.49).

9th August 1989 3.00

Mike Walker, the Norwich coach, phoned regarding my telling his son Ian, who is a youngster at Tottenham, on 26th July that he could no longer have goods free of charge. He had been getting gloves under a 2 year agreement arranged by Readers. He asked if I would change my mind and I said no, so he said in that case possibly Erik Thorstvedt would get uhlsport gloves for him. He said that he would also contact Reusch as the Norwich goalkeeper, Bryan Gunn, got gloves not only for himself but for the other Norwich goalkeepers,

9th August 1989 4.35

Tony Norman, Sunderland, phoned to request some gloves and 3 pairs 040 size 9.5, 2 pairs 015 size 9.5 were sent to him (No.50).

10th August 1989

I bought and sent to Reinhard this weeks issues of "Shoot" and "Match".

11th August 1989 8.56-8.58

I phoned uhlsport to ask about outstanding promotional goods like 015 size 9, 036 sizes 9.5 and 10, 544 jerseys. Reinhard was not there so I left a message.
