CHAPTER FIFTY SEVEN
24th October 1989 10.50
Reinhard phoned to ask me to get for him a Glasgow Rangers badge as soon as possible, either on a shirt or just the badge.
24th October 1989 11.34-11.38
Having checked up on the Glasgow Rangers badge situation I found that the badge they wear on the shirts (a mixture of the letters GRFC) is not the official club badge, which is a black circle with the name around the border and then a blue 18 panel football with a red lion on it. Having phoned Reinhard to discuss it I would send him photos of both styles and still try to get a shirt for him.
25th October 1989
I bought and sent to Reinhard this weeks issues of "Shoot" and "Match", along with Newcastle programme, Sondico price list and poster showing Glasgow Rangers badge.
25th October 1989 4.45
Roger Freestone, Chelsea now on loan to Swansea, phoned to ask for some 036 gloves. I told him that I did not have any size 9.5 at the moment, or his next choice 015 size 9.5. I then sent him 1 pair 019 size 9.5, 1 pair 083 size 9.5, 2 pairs 040 size 9.5, 1 cap (No.89).
26th October 1989 9.15
Alan Knight, Portsmouth, phoned to order some 036 gloves which I told him were not presently available, neither was his second choice 015. I then sent him 1 pair 019 size 9.5, 1 pair 083 size 9.5, 1 pair 554 trousers XL (No.90).
26th October 1989 9.30
John Burridge, Newcastle, phoned for some 036 size 9 gloves which I told him were not available at the moment. I said that I hoped to get the next delivery in about 10-14 days, and would send him some as soon as they were available.
30th October 1989 12.25
Alan Main, Dundee United, phoned to request 1 pair 040 size 9 and they were sent to him (No.91). He also wanted 2 pairs 036 size 9 but I told him that I did not have any at the moment but would send them on when available, hopefully about 2 weeks.
31st October 1989 11.15
Neil Ramsay, Neville Southall's agent, phoned to ask for some gloves. He said that Neville was complaining that the 036 gloves were twisting too much on his hands and he wanted to change to a glove with white palms and green on the back. I said that it could be 043, but I did not think that he would like them so the other possibility was 071 and 2 pairs size 8.5 were posted to him (No.92). Mr.Ramsay said that when he received goods from Germany for Neville he had to pay VAT to receive them. We talked generally about the excessive amount of goods Neville got through.
1st November 1989
After thinking about Neil Ramsay's phone call it suddenly struck me that perhaps Neville Southall meant the 019 Green, which I think he was sent from Germany last season. Therefore I sent him 2 pairs 019 Orange size 8.5 (No.93) with a note pointing out that the Green version is not sold in the U.K.
1st November 1989
I bought and sent to Reinhard this weeks issues of "Shoot" and "Match" along with a pair of Glasgow Rangers shorts which had arrived from Umbro.
1st November 1989
Having received some promotional stock I was able to send to John Burridge, Newcastle, 2 pairs 036 size 9 (No.94).
1st November 1989
I was now able to send to Alan Main, Dundee United, 2 pairs 036 size 9 (No.95).
2nd November 1989 11.45
John Burridge, Newcastle, phoned to see if there was any news on the 036 gloves and I told him that 2 pairs had been sent to him yesterday.
2nd November 1989 1.05
Gerry Peyton, Bournemouth, phoned to say that he had received a parcel from Germany which contained a sweatshirt only, but the invoice dated 30th October said 1 only leisure suit Red 5406, 3 pairs trousers 5 578. I said that I would check with Germany for him, and also confirmed that I had passed on his comments regarding contracts and payment for the World Cup.
2nd November 1989 1.26-1.38
I phoned Reinhard about Gerry Peyton and he said the tracksuit and trousers were on the way to him so hopefully they will arrive soon. I told him that I had sent him yesterday a pair of Glasgow Rangers shorts. He told me that he had spoken to Pat Bonner and sent him some clothing, but Pat Bonner was under contract to Umbro until August 1990, so nothing was possible for the World Cup. I mentioned that Israel were beaten by Colombia so Bonni Ginzburg of Glasgow Rangers would not be in Italy. However I mentioned that the Colombian goalkeeper Rene Higuita, was wearing Reusch in this game but I had seen photos of him in uhlsport in the past. He was a character and would get a lot of publicity because of his antics so may be worth trying to sign. Reinhard said that he would come to England as soon as Herve was settled in, probably early December.
8th November 1989 9.45
Les Fridge, St.Mirren, phoned to request 2 pairs 092 (white palm) size 9 and they were sent to him (No.96).
8th November 1989 11.05
Jill of Line 7 phoned to ask about Jim McNamara's phone call to me on 23rd October asking for 036 gloves size 9.5 for Erik Thorstvedt of Tottenham. I told her that I did not have any 036 size 9.5 as Jim was told, so if she can answer my question as to when I will receive the 036 size 9.5 that I have on order with Line 7, then I can supply the gloves the same day that they arrive. I ordered some from Reinhard for promotional stock on 26th September and the Sukan stock was ordered with Line 7 on the same day 26th September, 6 weeks ago.
8th November 1989 12.50
Reinhard phoned as he had seen my note about Neville Southall changing gloves. Reinhard will meet him next week when Wales play West Germany in Cologne and try to sort out the gloves then. We think that he has been asking about the 019 Green although I told him that on Sunday against Aston Villa he wore a pair of 071, although by then he should have recieved the 019 Orange I had sent him last week. I told Reinhard that he gets through a large number of gloves a season. I then told Reinhard about my phone call from Jill and my not having any 036 size 9.5 to send to Erik Thorstvedt at Tottenham. Finally we discussed the number of retailers in "Shoot" and "Match" who advertise Reusch and Sondico, but it is very rare to see anybody apart from Sukan Sports advertising uhlsport.
9th November 1989
I bought and sent to Reinhard this weeks issues of "Shoot" and "Match".
