CHAPTER SIXTY TWO
1st February 1990 4.35
Theo Snelders, Aberdeen, phoned to ask for 2 pairs 043 size 10 but I only had 1 pair in my Sukan stock, Line 7 have not had any stock for months, but I sent him the 1 pair (No.33). He also asked about Michael Watt, the Aberdeen reserve, who was waiting for some goods that he had ordered. I said that I had not received any order although the Line 7 rep Jim McNamara had spoken to me about Michael, I told Theo to give Michael my phone number and ask him to phone me so that some gloves could be sent to him.
2nd February 1990 10.12-10.29
I phoned Reinhard to see if there was any answer yet about Alan Main of Dundee United, and pass on the new details. He said no final answer but the feeling was that he should be made to honour his existing goods only contract and when this was due to expire in about 1 year a new offer of a contract to be made then. I mentioned that all day yesterday and so far this morning I have been phoning Line 7 at Hayes but no answer. Reinhard said that he had the same experience. He told me that Gerry Peyton of Bournemouth had a contract for goods only that expires in March. He asked me to offer him another 2 year goods only contract, plus for every World Cup Final game that he plays in Italy £xx , or half that £xx for every game that he is a substitute.
5th February 1990 2.30
Reinhard phoned to say that Alan Main of Dundee United should not be offered a new contract but should honour the existing contract and when this one expires a new one will then be considered. I told Reinhard about the Home Rendezvous advert in "World Soccer" for Inter Milan jerseys and tracksuits along with Bologna jerseys. I asked if there was any news on the promotional goods ordered 15th January, but he was unable to say immediately and would look into it.
5th February 1990 5.00
Jim McNamara of Line 7 phoned to confirm that he would like some goods 1 pair 036 size 9, 1 pair 036 size 9.5, 1 pair 019 size 9, 1 pair 019 size 9.5 sent to Michael Watt of Aberdeen, along with a 2 year goods only contract. I told Jim about the Alan Main situation and also gave him Tony Norman's address in Durham, which he may need for his football courses.
6th February 1990
I sent to Michael Watt of Aberdeen, 1 pair 036 size 9, 1 pair 036 size 9.5, 1 pair 019 size 9, 1 pair 019 size 9.5, 1 only glove bag (No.34).
6th February 1990
I wrote to Michael Watt of Aberdeen and sent to him 2 copies of a 2 year goods only contract. There is a chance that he may be first choice for Aberdeen for the rest of the season as Theo Snelders played his first game on Saturday for 5/6 weeks and I read one report that he again injured his knee and may not play again this season.
6th February 1990
I wrote to Alan Main, Dundee United, to explain that he could not have money at the moment.
7th February 1990
I bought and sent to Reinhard this weeks issues of "Shoot" and "Match".
7th February 1990 2.40
Les Parton, Stoke, phoned to request 4 pairs 040 size 9 for Peter Fox and Scott Barrett. I told him that they were not in stock at the moment but I was expecting some more in the next few days and would send them as soon as possible.
7th February 1990 4.20
Terry Gennoe, Blackburn, phoned for some gloves and 2 pairs 031 size 9 were posted to him (No.35).
8th February 1990 3.50
Priti of Dundee United phoned to see if there was an answer for Alan Main. I told her that uhlsport did not wish to change the existing contract and that I had sent a letter saying this to Alan Main himself two days ago.
8th February 1990
I recieved from Reinhard a calendar produced by Gartner in Italy for the Italian market. This is the sort of promotional item that should be produced for the U.K. and I think could be sold to goalkeepers and therefore would not cost too much money, if anything at all, when the final costs were worked out.
9th February 1990 8.56-9.02
I phoned Reinhard to tell him that West Ham had signed the Czechoslovakian international goalkeeper from Banik Ostrava. He is Ludek Miklosko and is 28 years old and has won 31 caps for his country. I asked if he was under contract to uhlsport or did they want to try and sign him as he almost certainly will be at the World Cup although not at the moment in the team as first choice. Reinhard said that he would check and let me know.
9th February 1990
Having received a delivery from Line 7, 4 pairs 040 size 9 were sent to Stoke City for Peter Fox and Scott Barrett (No.36).
9th February 1990 2.00
Campbell Money of St.Mirren phoned to say that he was thinking of setting up a goalkeepers mail order business in Scotland, would we be prepared to supply him with uhlsport goods. I pointed out that we would be competitors and gave him Line 7's phone number. Campbell Money is a Reusch contracted goalkeeper.
12th February 1990 9.25
Reinhard phoned to say that the Czechoslovakian international goalkeepers had to use adidas/Reusch gloves as arranged by the federation. I will continue to see if he wants uhlsport gloves for West Ham, but on goods only no money.
12th February 1990 1.25
Michael Watt, Aberdeen, phoned to say that he had received the gloves and contract. He had asked for sizes 9 and 9.5 but said that the 9.5 were too big and therefore 1 pair 036 size 8.5, 1 pair 019 size 8.5 were sent to him (No.37). He said that he would return the 2 pairs of size 9.5 along with the signed contract. His home address is xxx Tel; XX .
12TH fEBRUARY 1990 2.35
Bobby Geddes, Dundee, phoned to request some trousers and 2 pairs 554 XL were sent to him (No.38).
12th February 1990 2.40
Roger Freestone, Chelsea, called in and collected 2 pairs 036 size 9.5, 2 pairs 040 size 10 (No.39).
12th February 1990 4.35
Phil; Parkes phoned to say that he had spoken to Ludek Miklosko and that he wears Reusch but would be happy to have an uhlsport contract. His interpreter is Colin Ludwig at Swallow Hotel Tel; xx Room 127. Phil said that he would phone Colin Ludwig and ak him to phone me.
12th February 1990 4.40
Colin Ludwig phoned and said that Ludek would be interested and although he has heard the rumour about the Czechoslovakian Federation signing with adidas/Reusch he had not been told officially and felt that he could sign a personal uhlsport contract as long as it was done quickly. He is playing his first game for West Ham reserves at Reading tomorrow, 2 o'clock kick off and I said that I would take some kit to the ground for him. He is size 10 or 10.5 and also wants clothing. I said that I would have to check with Germany about any money contract.
