CHAPTER SIXTY SEVEN

2nd April 1990

I wrote to Les Fridge, St.Mirren, to tell him that Line 7 were not prepared to offer him any boot sponsorship.

4th April 1990

I bought and sent to Reinhard this weeks issues of "Shoot" and "Match", along with a Puma price list and details of a Reusch/Burkhart promotion in Germany which I think is relevant to our discussions over the weeks, months and years.

5th April 1990 10.30

Reinhard phoned to ask me to check with Theo Snelders of Aberdeen regarding payment. Apparently last time payment was sent in Deutsch Marks which meant he had to pay bank costs in exchanging it. Best way is to pay in Sterling straight into bank account so need details. Also let Reinhard know the amount lost last time so that it can be added on. I also mentioned that I had sent him yesterday details of the Reusch/Burkhart arrangement. I also asked if uhlsport were still co-operating with the German retailer/mail order company based near them in Balingen as last year. He thought that they were, but did not have details.

5th April 1990 4.36-4.41

I phoned Theo Snelders, Aberdeen, to find out his bank details xxx . He said that last time he lost £90 of what he was due to be paid.

6th April 1990

I wrote to Reinhard with Theo Snelders details.

10th April 1990

Having received a delivery from Line 7 I sent 4 pairs 036 size 9.5 to Erik Thorstvedt of Tottenham (No.70).

10th April 1990

I went last night to the Bob Wilson Goalkeeping School to try and promote Sukan Sports and get customers. The school is sponsored by adidas but they allow me to go and promote ourselves and sell other companies products. I distributed to all the goalkeepers the 036 style window stickers and Shilton, Leighton, Southall autograph cards. John Lukic of Arsenal was also there and he asked me to send him some gloves and 2 pairs 036 size 10, 2 pairs 040 size 9 were sent to him (No.71).

10th April 1990 1.40

Tony Norman, Sunderland, phoned to ask for some gloves and 2 pairs 036 size 9.5, 2 pairs 040 size 9.5 were sent to him (No.72).

10th April 1990 2.15

Roger Freestone, Chelsea but now on loan to Hereford in Division 4, phoned to ask for some goods and 2 pairs 036 size 9.5, 1 pair 554 trousers XL were sent to him (No.73). He also asked for some shorts but I told him that I did not have any.

11th April 1990 1.15

Alan Knight, Portsmouth, phoned to order some goods and 2 pairs 036 size 9.5 were sent to him (No.74).

12th April 1990

I received a letter from Mel Rees of Watford requesting gloves, and 1 pair 015 size 9, 1 pair 036 size 9 were sent to him (No.75).

12th April 1990

I bought and sent to Reinhard this weeks issues of "Shoot" and "Match".

12th April 1990 10.10

Terry Gennoe, Blackburn, phoned to request 2 pairs 031 size 9. They are not in stock at the moment but to be sent on when available.

12th April 1990 1.35

John Burridge, Newcastle, phoned to ask for some 036 size 9 gloves and I told him that none were in stock but I should receive some next week and would then send him some.

12th April 1990 1.40

Theo Snelders, Aberdeen, phoned to request some goods and 2 pairs 036 size 10 were sent to him (No.76). I asked about his fitness and he plays for the first team this weekend in the Cup semi-final against Dundee United. I asked him to check what gloves their goalkeeper Alan Main wears as although he is under contract to uhlsport I think he is now wearing another make. Theo thought that he is wearing Sondico although earlier in the season he was wearing uhlsport.

12th April 1990 1.58-2.03

I phoned Shirley Kitson of Sondico, to ask about Alan Main of Dundee United. I told her that he was under contract to uhlsport for about another year but we understand that he has been wearing Sondico. She said that he had contacted them regarding gloves, saying that he was a free agent, and therefore he was sent gloves and a contract. At the moment they have not had back a signed contract and she tells me that now she knows he is still under contract to uhlsport, this will of course change the situation.

12th April 1990 2.07-2.19

I phoned Reinhard to pass on the new information about Alan Main, and gave him the club's phone number as I did not have his home details, always sending goods to him at the club. I said that I would deal with is if he wanted me to, but I felt it would be better dealt with from Germany. We then discussed other general matters.

I made a special effort to purchase a Scottish Sunday newspaper to try and find out, if possible, what Alan Main was wearing on Saturday. I found a photo in the Sunday Mail which was not very clear, but looked like either Sondico Dibble Pro or Umbro Grobbelaar Exclusive. I could not be certain, but they certainly did not look like uhlsport.

17th April 1990

Having received a delivery I was able to send John Burridge, Newcastle, 2 pairs 036 size 9 (No.77).

17th April 1990

I sent to Peter Shilton, Derby, 2 pairs 036 size 9 (No.78).

17th April 1990

I sent to Les Fridge, St.Mirren, 1 pair 043 size 9 (No.79).

17th April 1990

I sent to Ludek Miklosko, West Ham, 3 pairs 562 white shorts XL, 1 pair 578 trousers XL (No.80).

18th April 1990 4.00

John Phillips of Sports & Leisure, Haverfordwest, phoned to see if I would be interested in supplying gloves to Andy Rhodes, Oldham, who is a friend of his. Mr.Phillips told me that Andy Rhodes would be playing in the Littlewoods Cup Final at Wembley in 10 days, although recently Jon Hallworth has been in the team. I said to ask Mr.Rhodes to contact me although to the best of my knowledge both Hallworth and Rhodes were connected with Sondico who are based in Oldham.

18th April

I bought and sent to Reinhard this weeks issues of "Shoot" and "Match", along with the Scottish newspaper regarding Alan Main.

19th April 1990 2.25

Reinhard phoned and asked me to send to Theo Snelders, Aberdeen, 2 pairs 043 size 10, which were sent (No.81). I told him that Herve had been to see me during the morning and we had discussed my promotional work. The meeting had cleared up some points, but the system that Herve wishes to use does not meet with my total agreement as quite correctly he has his own views, and in the end it is his decision not mine.
