CHAPTER SEVENTY FOUR

23rd July 1990 3.55

Graham Benstead, now Brentford having moved from Sheffield United, phoned to request some goods and 3 pairs 031 size 8.5 were sent to him (No.10). He also asked for some padded shorts, but I told him that I did not have any.

24th July 1990 4.26-4.35

I phoned Peter Stewart, editor of "Shoot", to ask if we could discuss the Shoot/uhlsport Goalkeeper award over the phone rather than arranging to see him as I was busy at the moment. He readily agreed and said that the main thing was to see the actual trophy, or at least a photo of the actual trophy, before going ahead, as the photo already supplied could not be used in any publicity. He would also require a letter from Line 7 or uhlsport to confirm that a trophy would be donated free of charge. The basis for the competition would be the Shoot Stats, marks given for matches, but it was also felt that there could be a committee at the end of the season to finalise the winner. He suggested Ray Clemence, but I told him that he works for Sondico, uhlsport's competitors, therefore an older player like Phil Parkes, not now playing in Division 1 would be better. Another alternative could be Pat Jennings. Generally I said I would leave the organising and publicity to "Shoot", but I would get involved if they wanted me to. I told him that I would contact Line 7 regarding the trophy and letter of intent, as this was needed before anything else could be started.

24th July 1990 4.36-4.44

I phoned Herve to inform him of my talk with Peter Stewart, and asked him to arrange the trophy and letter. Later I called back to say that there was a trophy on page 11 of the uhlsport 1989-90 catalogue which may be more suitable.

24th July 1990 4.50

Les Sealey, Manchester United, phoned to thank me for the gloves sent to him recently. He confirmed that his Sondico contract had been cancelled by mutual consent. He did not ask for an uhlsport contract, but I said if he needed any more gloves then let me know.

25th July 1990 12.15

Reinhard Hahn of uhlsport phoned me to see if I could help him by getting catalogues from the various boot suppliers. I said that I would of course do my best but that as I did not sell footwear it might not be too easy, however I would try.

25th July 1990 1.50

Les Fridge, St.Mirren, phoned for some goods and 2 pairs 036 size 9 were sent to him (No.11) along with a 1990-91 uhlsport catalogue.

25th July 1990 2.35

John Burridge, Newcastle, phoned to order some goods from the new uhlsport catalogue. I said that I did not stock the items he wanted but would see if I could get them sent to him by Line 7. 2 pairs 677 shinguards, 058 gloves size 9.

25th July 1990 2.55-2.57

I phoned Herve and asked him to send John Burridge at Newcastle, 2 pairs 677 shinguards, 1 pair 058 size 9.

26th July 1990

I bought and sent to Bernd this weeks issues of "Shoot" and "Match".

26th July 1990 9.05

Alan Knight, Portsmouth, phoned to request some goods and 1 pair 031 size 9.5, 1 only 544 Green XL, 1 only 544 Silver XL were sent to him (No.12). He wanted the jerseys for training but I suggested that he try to use them in matches as well, Portsmouth wear Scoreline kit. He also wanted trousers and I said that I did not have any at the moment but would send on as soon as available.

27th July 1990 1.40

Henry Smith, Hearts, phoned to request some goods and 4 pairs 036 size 9, 1 glove bag were posted to him (No.13).

27th July 1990 2.35

Bernd phoned to ask about English wording for a new product. The German translates to "world novelty" but this does not sound correct in English, the best I could come up with is "unique" instead of novelty. I then asked about John Lukic being paid for wearing an uihlsport badge on an Umbro jersey, or if he is able to wear an uhlsport jersey. He said that he would think about it and let me know.

27th July 1990 4.55

Herve phoned to say that he had spoken to Bernd regarding the trophy, and uhlsport do have available a trophy as illustrated in the 1989-90 catalogue page 11 with Preud'homme. They will take photographs and send the photographs over while Herve will bring the trophy back from I.S.P.O. Herve asked me to ask Peter Shilton, John Lukic, Erik Thorstvedt, Neville Southall to attend E.X.S.L. on Sunday afternoon. If possible to fix an hour for each of them. I asked if there was anything for them to autograph, Shilton has posters, Southall cards but nothing for Lukic or Thorstvedt.

1st August 1990 9,20

Erik Thortstvedt, Tottenham, phoned to order some goods and 4 pairs 036 size 9.5 were sent to him (No.14).

1st August 1990

I bought and sent to Bernd this weeks issues of "Shoot" and "Match" along with the new Sukan catalogue and special offer leaflets.

2nd August 1990 4.20

Theo Snelders, Aberdeen, phoned to request some goods and 2 only 543 Silver XL were sent to him (No.15). He also wanted some Yellow jerseys and 056 Inter Milan gloves, which I did not have. I said that the 071 gloves would be the nearest to the 056, but there was no size 10 at the moment.

4th August 1990

I received copy letters from Herve regarding the trophy, required for "Shoot". The letters were to "Shoot" and Bernd at uhlsport.

7th August 1990 9.35

Bobby Geddes, Kilmarnock, phoned to request some goods and 2 pairs 036 size 8.5, 1 pair 040 size 8.5, 2 only 544 Turquoise XL were sent to him (No.16). He also asked for a tracksuit but I said that I had no stocks as they were not sold in the U.K. His new home address is xxxx Tel: xx .<br>
