CHAPTER EIGHTY

8th October 1990 2.25-2.28

I phoned Herve to tell him about the situation of Neville Southall attending a shop, and that I had left a message for Guy Webb and that a copy of this part of Neville's contract should reach Line 7 from Germany.

8th October 1990 2.45

Bobby Geddes, Kilmarnock, phoned to request some goods and 2 pairs 036 size 8.5, 1 pair 083 size 8.5, 1 pair 554 trousers XL were sent to him (No.60). He also asked about shinpads, which I said were not available, and about childrens gloves which I said I could sell to him, but not give on promotional.

9th October 1990

I received back from Ludek Miklosko, West Ham, a signed 2 years goods only contract,

10th October 1990 12.05

Neil Ramsay phoned to order some gloves for Neville Southall and 6 pairs 036 size 8.5 were sent to him (No.61). He then went on to say that he had received a letter from uhlsport regarding their meeting at E.X.S.L., but he felt that their opinion of Neville's worth and importance was nowhere near as high as his or that of other companies like Sondico. I continue to get the impression that he will not be renewing his uhlsport contract.

10th October 1990 4.37-4.39

As I had not heard about Peter Shilton attending Dixon's for Jim McNamara, I phoned Diana to try and get an answer. She was not in so I left a message for her to phone me.

11th October 9.15

Diana from Park Associates phoned to say that Peter Shilton was not able to attend the Sheffield shop in the near future because of heavy prior committments. He is virtually booked up until the end of 1990, including one in December for Line 7. I do not know what this is as it is not anything that I have been asked to arrange. She said that she will keep in touch but was not optimistic for the near future.

11th October 1990 9.20-9.21

I phoned Jim McNamara to inform him of this phone call and left a message on his answering machine.

11th October 1990 9.35

John Burridge, Newcastle, phoned to say that he had received the 036 size 9.5 and could I send him 2 more pairs as he was returning 4 pairs size 9 to me. 2 pairs 036 size 9.5 were sent to him (No.62).

11th October 1990

I bought and sent to Bernd this weeks issues of "Shoot" and "Match".

12th October 1990

I received back from John Burridge, Newcastle, 4 pairs 036 size 9 which were not required.

12th October 1990

Diana phoned to say that Peter Shilton would be doing the shop opening in Sheffield on 25th October. Apparently she or Peter Shilton had spoken to Herve about it.

12th October 1990 5.09-5.15

I phoned Herve to check on the situation with Peter Shilton and Dixons. He said that he had spoken to Jim McNamara and it was mentioned that he was trying to get Peter Shilton to attend a shop, so Herve decided to phone his agent and do it himself. He is obviously better at doing this than me as I had been trying for weeks as my reports show, We then talked about other things and he said that they are employing an agency for a 3 month trial period, which is soon to end. I asked if this included uhlsport and he said no, just Line 7. I then asked if he was satisfied with their work and re-employed them, then would this then include uhlsport and he said that he did not know. I then asked if they had any photographs from E.X.S.L. as while I was there on the Sunday many photographs were taken of Shilton and Thorstvedt. He said that they did have photographs but none left, this means that I could not try to get them published anywhere although he said the agents had been given some photographs, although as they are trying to publicise Line 7 not uhlsport and the 2 players are contracted to uhlsport not Line 7 this would not seem to be the best use for them.

12th October 1990 5.20-5.28

I phoned Jim McNamara with the news as I understood it about Peter Shilton attending Dixon's at Sheffield. He said that he had been away in Scotland all week but had received my message on his answerphone and just finished speaking to Herve on the phone.

15th October 1990 9.50

Eric Engstrom phoned to ask for some goods for Ludek Miklosko, West Ham, and 2 pairs 036 size 10.5, 1 only 012 glove bag, 1 pair 554 trousers XL were posted to him (No.63).

He wanted more gloves, I told him that I had already ordered some for him but I do not need this size for anyone else so do not keep many pairs in stock. He also wanted a second pair of trousers which I could not spare from my stock (Line 7 are quoting 1991 delivery for my orders) and a pair of Claret long cut shorts. I said that I would try and get some shorts from Germany for him.

16th October 1990 10.00

Guy Webb, Line 7, phoned up about Neville Southall and the shop opening. He said that Henry at Line 7 had told him that uhlsport were sending a copy of his contract to me. I said this was not correct the situation was that uhlsport would send a copy to Line 7, not me, and this is what I had told Herve on 8th October and the message that I had left on Guy Webb's answerphone on 8th October. Guy told me that he had not received the answerphone message as his machine was playing up.

16th October 1990 10.09-10.16

I phoned Bernd to check that the fax of Neville Southall's contract had been sent out, and he said yes almost straight away, either last Monday or Tuesday. The fax asked Line 7 to send a copy to Guy Webb and a copy to me. He said that he had written to Jim Leighton to say that he can have a goods only contract rather than £xx , as he was no longer in the first team, apparently the contract allows uhlsport to do this. He had received an earlier letter from Jim Leighton saying that Jim had some gloves he did not need and Bernd had asked him to return them to me. I then asked for some goods for Ludek Miklosko 562 shorts White XL 2 pairs, Bordeaux XL 2 pairs and 8 pairs 036 size 10.5 gloves.

16th October 1990 10.17-10.19

I phoned Henry at Line 7 to ask him to check that the uhlsport fax had arrived, and after checking he agreed that it was in their office and been received about a week ago. I asked him to ensure that Guy Webb is informed of its contents.

16th October 1990 10.20-10.22

I phoned Guy Webb to tell him that Line 7 had received the fax about a week ago and that I had now asked them to deal with it. He said that he had now spoken to Neville's agent and it looks as though he will attend the shop as requested, and no money was mentioned.

16th October 1990 10.40

Terry Gennoe, Blackburn, phoned for some gloves and 4 pairs 031 size 9 were sent to him (No.64).
