CHAPTER EIGHTY THREE
23rd November 1990 9.45
Les Fridge, St.Mirren, phoned for some goods and 1 pair 054 size 9, 1 pair 040 size 9, 1 pair 554 trousers XL were sent to him (No.79). He had originally wanted 071 or 083 or 031 none of which are in stock as we are awaiting delivery of promotional stock ordered in September and Sukan stock ordered with Line 7 in April for October delivery.
23rd November 1990 1.20
John Lukic, Leeds, phoned to order some gloves and 2 pairs 036 size 10, 2 pairs 040 size 9.5 were sent to him (No.80). He also asked about a new contract for 1991-92 season and onwards and I said that I would check with Germany and let him know when I received an answer.
26th November 1990 11.10
Dundee United phoned to request some goods for Alan Main, and 2 pairs 036 size 9, 1 pair 566 XL were posted to him (No.81). They had asked for 550 shorts but I said that they were no longer available.
27th November 1990 12.20
Tony Norman, Sunderland, phoned to order some goods and 4 pairs 036 size 9.5, 2 pairs 040 size 9.5 were sent to him (No.82).
27th November 1990 9.52-9.58
I phoned uhlsport to speak to Bernd, but he was away on business, so after speaking to his colleague about contracts in general it was left for Bernd to phone me on his return next week. I wanted to pass on the message about John Lukic.
27th November 1990
I received a letter from Mel Rees, West Bromwich Albion, formerley of Watford, and 3 pairs 036 size 9 were posted to him (No.83).
28th November 1990 9.55
Erik Thorstvedt, Tottenham, phoned for some gloves urgently required and 6 pairs 036 size 9.5 were sent to him (No.84).
29th November 1990
Having received a delivery I sent to John Burridge, Newcastle, 2 pairs 071 size 9 (No.85).
29th November 1990
Having received a delivery I sent to Ludek Miklosko, West Ham, 2 pairs 562 shorts White XL, 2 pairs 562 shorts Maroon XL (No.86).
29th November 1990 9.35
John Burridge, Newcastle, phoned to ask if the 071 gloves had arrived, and I said yes and 2 pairs size 9 had just been packed to send to him. He then said that he wanted size 9.5 not size 9, so I unpacked parcel No.85 and changed the sizes.
29th November 1990
I bought and sent to Bernd this weeks issues of "Shoot" and "Match".
30th November 1990 12.05-12.14
I phoned Herve to ask if he had any news for me after his trip to France. He said he did not and he had to go back in December and would come and see me on his return, the morning of 4th January. He asked if there was any news on the Shoot/uhlsport trophy as he had not seen anything. I said that a photo of the trophy and current positions had been included in the magazine once and they had been sent another update to be included either next week or the week after. I then asked about the P.*. agency that they had been using and he said that they would not be using them in the future. I then asked if he had been contacted about Peter Shilton's benefit game at Tottenham next month, and he said yes and he had spoken to various people including uhlsport in Germany. Apparently uihlsport would not give money but would give goods and they were considering whether to give the International team uhlsport Italia tracksuits. I pointed out that nothing had been said to me about this, although I would have thought that it would have come under promotional work. Herve said that he had spoken to Peter Shilton about the game when he had phoned him to arrange a photographic session. This is the situation I have been fighting against for 3 years, if Line 7 wish to do the promotional work themselves then that is okay by me but why pay me to do it and then not involve me. I ended by asking Herve to arrange 2 good tickets for me for the game, to be paid for if required.
3rd December 1990
In the December issue of "Football Today", there is a photo of John Burridge, Newcastle, wearing Readers Real gloves. It is not possible to say when the photograph was taken but I would guess this season. He is not under contract to uhlsport but does get a large amount of free goods.
5th December 1990
I received a letter from S.J.Rockell, Managing Director of JMFC Management, to say that Erik Thorstvedt would finish with uhlsport on 4th June 1991 after his 6 months written notice.
5th December 1990 9.04-9.16
I phoned Bernd to tell him about Erik Thorstvedt. I also mentioned that John Lukic was looking for an offer. I said that for whatever reason uhlsport were losing goalkeepers quickly and soon they would not have much coverage amongst the best British goalkeepers. He said that no budgets had yet been fixed for 1991 so could not yet say who, if anyone, they would be trying to get signed up.
5th December 1990 10.45
Herve phoned about Sukan business and I told him about Erik Thorstvedt. I again asked about the Shilton benefit game, in particular requesting 2 tickets, and he told me that he had not yet made a decision or contacted the organisers about possible uhlsport involvement. The match is scheduled for 18th December when Herve will be in France.
6th December 1990
I wrote to S.J.Rockell to confirm receipt of his letter, to give Bernd's name to him, and ask if they have any other goalkeepers they represent who might wish an uhlsport contract.
6th December 1990
I bought and sent to Bernd this weeks issues of "Shoot" and "Match", along with copies of the letter from S.J.Rockell and my reply.
7th December 1990 2.00
John Lukic, Leeds, phoned to order some gloves and 3 pairs 036 size 10, 1 pair 031 size 9.5 were posted to him (No.87). He also asked about a new contract and I told him that Bernd had been in Japan and had not yet been able to give me an answer. I confirmed that I would contact him as soon as I received any details.
10th December 1990 9.50
Herve phoned to say that he had received 2 tickets for the Peter Shilton game, and would be sending them, to me today. I asked how much and he said that they were free of charge, for which I thanked him. I asked if Line 7/uhlsport had decided to get involved in the game and he said only in giving Italia tracksuits as prizes in a competition.
