CHAPTER EIGHTY EIGHT

19th March 1991 1.50

Les Fridge, St.Mirren, phoned to say that his goods only contract has almost finished and Patrick have offered him money to sign a glove contract, he presently wears Patrick boots. I said that I was certain that uhlsport would only offer another goods only contract, no money, but I would pass the information on for him.

19th March 1991 2.13-2.16

I phoned Herve to pass on the details about Les Fridge, and that he had received an unknown offer from Patrick. Herve said that he would check with Bernd, and also told me that John Lukic would receive his money soon.

20th March 1991

I bought and sent to Bernd this weeks issues of "Shoot" and "Match".

20th March 1991 4.40

Alan Knight, Portsmouth, phoned for some goods and 2 pairs 071 size 9.5, 1 pair 054 size 9.5 were sent to him (No.34). He also wanted trousers and I said they would be sent on when available.

21st March 1991 10.40

Herve phoned to say that apparently France does not have any 040 in stock, so for promotional stock I will have to wait for Germany, 6 weeks. He asked for the address and phone number of Alan Main. I told him that goods were sent to him c/o Dundee United, and either he phoned me or Priti did from the club. I gave him Ludek Miklosko's home address and said that my dealings were done by phone through Eric Engstrom, a friend who acted as his interpreter.

21st March 1991

Having received a delivery I sent to Ludek Miklosko, West Ham, 2 pairs 636 elbow pads Large, 2 pairs 638 knee pads Large (No.35).

22nd March 1991 2.10-2.20

I phoned uhlsport, Bernd was not there, so I left a message for him to phone me on Monday. I spoke to Mr.Huebner, who found out that 554 trousers and 453 one piece suit had been despatched on 18th March. He asked what gloves Les Sealey was wearing for Manchester United as from TV he could not tell, I told him Sondico. We then discussed the problem of seeing and distinguishing gloves on TV and I said that in my opinion uhlsport are now not very good at this either, and I quoted the new 060 as an example. He agreed and said that probably the professionals will get a glove with better markings although the gloves sold will not change. It surprises me for a company like uhlsport to make such a mistake. When I saw the gloves at E.X.S.L. I said that I did not think the cosmetics were strong enough, but Bernd disagreed.

22nd March 1991 2.25-2.27

I phoned Andy Rhodes and left a message that a Large 453 suit, not the Extra Large wanted, had left Germany this week.

25th March 1991 10.00

Bernd returned my call, and I told him that Neville Southall was wearing Sondico gloves on Thursday against Leeds. He said that was O.K. as he had made an agreement with Neville Southall to terminate his contract early and only pay half of the outstanding money. I asked about 083 gloves, 544 jerseys and was told they had still not been packed or despatched. He said he would check. He also said that on the special 019 gloves the quantity required would be 300 pairs and normal price through Line 7. I pointed out that previously it was about 100 pairs, sent direct from Germany to me at DM.32.50 ex Balingen, no involvement by Line 7. He said he did not realise this and would go back with this information.

28th March 1991

I sent to Peter Fox, Stoke, a pair of 040 size 9 (No.57) as they were the pair received from Germany but found to have a slight flaw on the palm, but I thought that he would still like them as he had sounded desperate for some more.
