CHAPTER NINETY ONE
5th July 1991
I received a letter from Mel Rees, W.B.A., requesting a renewal of his contract and 3 pairs of APG gloves.
5th July 1991 9.46-9.48
I phoned Line 7 to ask David Spensley about a new contract for Mel Rees, W.B.A., as when he visited me I got the impression that he did not think that he was worth a contract. He was not available so I left a message and the details for him.
5th July 1991
I wrote to Mel Rees, W.B.A., to say that I needed to check with Line 7 about the contract, and sent him 1 pair 060 size 9 (No.88).
5th July 1991
Bernd telephoned me after I had earlier tried to speak to him and he had been unavailable. I asked for a 453 Yellow one piece suit XL or L for Les Fridge, St.Mirren, and any tee shirts or leisure clothing for John Lukic, which he told me was not available. In answer to my query about posters he said they had Zenga, Tacconi. De Beer and I asked him to send me about 30 of each. I then told him that Line 7 had told me that the 043 was discontinued but he said this was not true it was still in their range and that I should get back on to Line 7. I told him that I had spoken to David Spensley and we were going to carry on as we are until the end of the year, although I had told him that I was not happy with the way things are.

Alan Knight, Portsmouth, phoned to order some goods and 1 pair 554 XL, 2 pairs 036 size 9.5, 2 pairs 071 size 9.5, 2 pairs 040 size 9.5 were sent to him (No.89). He had asked for 2 pairs of trousers but I could only spare 1 pair, and he also asked for a couple of jerseys but at the moment I don't have any. I asked about the 060 APG he was sent and he said he did not like them.
8th July 1991 12.40
Peter Fox, Stoke, phoned to ask for some gloves. Last season he was getting gloves free of charge, not under contract, while other goalkeepers at the club bought at the special prices. I told him that I would send him some and 2 pairs 040 size 9 were sent to him (No.90), but I also told him that there had been changes at Line 7 and I could not tell him if he could continue to get gloves free of charge throughout the season. When I heard from David Spensley about Mel Rees I would ask about Peter Fox.
9th July 1991 9.20
Bobby Geddes, Kilmarnock, phoned to order 061 gloves. I told him that I did not have any of this style but I had the similar 060, and 2 pairs 060 size 8.5, 1 only 012 glove bag were sent to him (No.91).

I wrote to Mel Rees, W.B.A., to inform him that he could not be offered a new contract.

Michael Watt, Aberdeen, phoned to ask for some 043 size 9 gloves. I told him that I was still waiting for some which is why he had not been sent any at the end of last season. He asked when I would have stocks and I said I was not sure, but as soon as they were available I would send him some. I pointed out that I ordered some from Line 7 in January for July 1st delivery, only to be told by Line 7 that they could not supply as this style has been discontinued. However the glove is still in the uhlsport catalogue and according to Germany is still available. I sent him instead 3 pairs 036 size 9, 1 pair 566 XL (No.93).
15th July 1991
Having received a delivery from uhlsport, I was able to send to Alan Knight, Portsmouth, 1 only 544 Green XL (No.94).
15th July 1991 1.25
Les Fridge, St.Mirren, phoned for some goods and 2 pairs 071 size 9, 2 pairs 040 size 9 were sent to him (No.95). He really wanted 083, 031, 052 but I informed him that they were either discontinued or not stocked in the U.K.
15th July 1991 1.30
David Spensley phoned to ask for some goods to go to the National Football School of Excellence at Lilleshall c/o Tony Pickering Assistand Director of Coaching. 4 pairs 071 size 9 were sent (No.96) 2 pairs each for Neil Hopper and Andrew Woods. Also for September 1 st the following are required Richard Hurst 1 pair 071 size 9, 1 pair 073 size 9 and Neil Cutler 1 pair 061 size 9.5, 1 pair 073 size 9.5. Afetr taking these details I passed on to him that I had heard that Puma were chasing after David James, Watford and England Under 21, who was also being linked with larger clubs in particular Oldham. He was not familiar with the name so I tried to give him further details about David James.

Jim McNamara, Line 7, phoned to ask me to send 2 pairs 036 size 11 to Colin Campbell Sports. 68 Inverleith Row, Inverleith. Edinburgh EH3 5LP for the Arbroath goalkeeper David Larter. I told him that the system now was that I would in turn have to ask David Spensley, but Jim told me that he thought he was already on holiday, so I said yes, although Arbroath being Scottish 2nd Division would not normally get free gloves from me.
17th July 1991 9.25-9.27
I phoned Line 7 to order the 2 pairs 036 size 11 as I do not keep many of this size in stock and none of the players I normally supply use this size. Herve confirmed that David Spensley was on holiday.

Mr.Bouska Tel: xx , phoned on behalf of Pavel Srnicek, Newcastle, to say thank you for the quick delivery of the gloves. I said that as he was now getting gloves regularly he would be needed to sign a goods only contract, so that uhlsport could use his name and photograph if they wanted to. I therefore sent him a letter and 2 copies of a 2 year goods only contract for signature and 1 to be returned if acceptable.
