CHAPTER NINETY SIX

9th September 1991

Having received a delivery I sent to Pavel Srnicek, Newcastle, 1 pair 051 size 11, 1 pair 071 size 11, 1 pair 6677 shinguards (No.42).

9th September 1991 11.20

Steven Woods, Hibernian, phoned to ask for some gloves for Hibernian goalkeepers. I said that the only goalkeeper at Hibernian that I supply is John Burridge. He got John Burridge to the phone who said the goods were not for him but others. As it was only about 2 weeks ago that I was asked by Line 7 to send 6 pairs of gloves to the Scottish rep for 3 goalkeepers at Hibernian, I said that I would take details of what was wanted and check with Line 7. He then decided that he would not bother me but contact Alex McGrouther direct.

9th September 1991 11.27-11.31

I phoned David Spensley to tell him about the Hibernian phone call. He agreed that I should do nothing at the moment, but if I am contacted again to inform him.

10th September 1991 2.56-3.00

I phoned Line 7 to ask about payment for August's work which had not arrived yet. David Spensley took the call and said that he would check with Herve. He then asked me to send 2 pairs 036 size 9 to Ian Walker, Tottenham (No.43). They were to be sent to Jeff Weston at Jerome Anderson Management. He asked if I knew about Erik Thorstvedt throwing his gloves into the crowd after a game. I said yes although I thought it was only after the team won, not every game. He said that Ian Walker was being encouraged to do the same, but for obvious reasons it was not to be encouraged.

10th September 1991 4.00

David Spensley phoned to ask me to send to Steve Ogrizovic, Coventry, some gloves and 1 pair 019 size 10, 1 pair 061 size 9.5 were sent to him (No.44). Apparently he was uncertain about the quality of the 036 in the wet and wanted to try others. In my opinion the 036 would be the best.

11th September 1991 1.40

Les Fridge, St.Mirren, phoned to order some gloves and 2 pairs 040 size 9 were sent to him (No.45).

12th September 1991

I bought and sent to Jochen this weeks issues of "Shoot" and "Match".

12th September 1991 4.35

Bobby Geddes, Kilmarnock, phoned to request some goods and 1 pair 060 size 8.5, 1 pair 036 size 8.5 were sent to him (No.46). He said that he had found the 060 to be slippery in the wet.

13th September 1991 9.40

David Spensley phoned to ask if I could bring videos to E.X.S.L., as they have hired a video machine but do not have any films to show. I said the most appropriate that I have would be the Peter Shilton Story and Saves Galore, which Herve had already asked me to bring when I had seen him at the Football Show in Birmingham.

13th September 1991 12.35

Jochen Mink phoned to check that I would be visiting E.X.S.L. and I confirmed that I would be going on Sunday and that I would spend a lot of time on the Line 7 stand.

13th September 1991 1.15

Rebecca phoned from Line 7 on behalf of David Spensley, to ask me to if possible bring a pair of 060 gloves with me to E.X.S.L. I asked what size and she did not know but after checking said size 8, to which I said the smallest that I had was size 8.5 and was told that would be acceptable (No.47).

I visited E.X.S.L. on Sunday 15th September, handing over the 2 videos they wanted to borrow and the pair of 060 gloves. I also met Jochen and during the day tried to explain some of my feelings that in the past I have not been happy with my relationship with Line 7 and the promotional work I have been involved in. I also explained some of the ideas that I have put forward over the years which have not been accepted or taken up.

16th September 1991 4.00

John Lukic, Leeds, phoned to request some gloves and 3 pairs 036 size 10 were sent to him (No.48).

18th September 1991

I received from Les Fridge, St.Mirren, a match programme for St.Mirren v Hearts 14/9/91, which has an article about him which briefly mentions uhlsport plus a photo of him wearing 083 gloves.

18th September 1991

I bought and sent to Jochen this weeks issues of "Shoot" and "Match".

18th September 1991 4.20-4.23

I phoned David Spensley regarding the report in the G.M. Vauxhall press release and newsletter that Ryan Price, Kidderminster, had joined uhlsport contracted players like Peter Shilton and John Lukic. He told me that there was no contract involved and it was just something that he had done through Line 7 as they both live in Stafford.

19th September 1991 12.50

Eric Engstrom phoned to order some goods for Ludek Miklosko, West Ham. He wanted 4 or 5 pairs of gloves and I told him that I could not send that many immediately but would send some with others to follow. 2 pairs 036 size 10.5, 1 pair 578 XL were sent to him (No.49).

19th September 1991 1.30

Guido van der Kamp, Dundee United, phoned for APG gloves size 10.5. I sent him the only pair that I had 061 size 10.5 (No.50).

19th September 11991 2.30

John Burridge, Hibernian, phoned for some 019 gloves in Green. I told him that they were not normally available over here through Line 7, just the Pink, but as I have been unable to obtain the Pink from Line 7 I did send him 2 pairs 019 Green size 9.5 from Sukan stock (No.51).

20th September 1991 11.08-11.11

I phoned Line 7 about Sukan matters. I was then asked to send to Steve Ogrizovic, Coventry, 2 pairs 036 size 9.5 (No.52).

20th September 1991 12.25

Herve phoned back about my query on promotional stock. He said that 1 pair 019 size 7.5, 12 pairs 040 size 9.5, 2 pairs 040 size 10.5 would be sent to me today. I told him that in a phone call from his office on 6th September, I was told that the goods being sent were 60 pairs 060, 5 pairs 040, 24 pairs 376, 8 pairs elbow, 8 pairs knee, 24 pairs 554, 61 pairs 036, 12 pairs 061. He did not know this, but said that he would have another look and let me know what he could find out.

20th September 1991 12.55

Herve phoned again to say that what I had been told on 6th September was wrong. These goods had not been sent by uhlsport, only the 15 pairs he had told me about earlier. The recent delivery through Panalpina was 5 parcels, but mostly for Line 7 not Sukan.

20th September 1991 4.35

Gordon Marshall, Celtic, phoned to request an assortment of gloves, shorts and trousers. He also asked about 1 piece suits but I said they were not available in the U.K. I asked if he had signed a contract with uhlsport as I had sent him 4 pairs of gloves on 9th August. He said that he had not discussed or been offered any contract. His phone number is xxx . He wanted the goods sent c/o Celtic F.C. He had also been given some Line 7 boots by Alex McGrouther and wanted to return them as they were no good. I said that I had nothing to do with boots but would pass the message on, but he said not to bother he would sort it out himself.

20th September 1991 4.45-4.48

I phoned Herve regarding Gordon Marshall, to find out if he was to be offered a contract. He said that David Spensley was dealing with it, he would speak to him over the weekend and let me know Monday afternoon.
